Returning from an amber country

We have had so many holidays cancelled that we have decided to go to Portugal.

We are retired so the post return quarantine is not a problem.

However, we are wondering how we are meant to get home as we are potentially carrying Covid.

We have a taxi booked, but will we be allowed to use it? Not exactly quarantine, is it?

You can’t holiday in Amber countries you can visit for family emergencies etc.

Not the case. That is Advice, not prohibition.

You could park at the airport.

Have a lovely time!

I don't know the official advice but was a bit surprised when friends came back from an amber country and took a train and taxi!

We're in Portugal at the moment. Enjoy!! X

If we go, I plan on using a "meet and greet" parking service. There is minimal interaction on pick up.

Petrificus · 05/06/2021 12:18

The rule is that you are allowed to take the “shortest” journey home from the airport. So yes, whichever route you think has the least exposure (to others) should be fine.

Instructions are here:

www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england

See the section entitled:

" How to travel to the place where you’re quarantining"

DonkeysNotDisney · 05/06/2021 12:18

You can take a train and a bus and a taxi. You can stop at the shops for essentials, if you forget your mask you can still go in as no one can question you, so you are right, it's not exactly quarantine.

DonkeysNotDisney · 05/06/2021 12:19

Oh, an you can stand in an airport next to people flying from red areas. (My ire is not with you but the 'rulez')

Hoppinggreen · 05/06/2021 12:28

I’m going to Spain in a few weeks, we will use Meet and Greet parking.
Will be getting an Ocado delivery when we get home and neighbours have offered to help if we need anything else.
We plan to get a day 5 release test though

My mistake, didn’t realise you were one of those fully vaccinated, stuff anyone else , I deserve a holiday in a high risk area more than other people deserve to not get seriously ill/die people.
