Are most actresses very very slim in real life?

I saw a well known actress a few days ago, standing behind her in the queue for a coffee. She was dressed down, however was clearly very pretty in person. However I was taken aback by how slim she was. I would say she was slightly taller than average, not a tiny person if you know what I mean. But so so slim. Do you think most famous actresses/singers etc are like this? Maybe I’m very naive.

Sarah Ferguson was always reported to be overweight in the papers, back when she was still in the royal family. Yet I saw her opening a hospital and was very surprised at how tall and slim she was.

WellTidy · 05/06/2021 07:50

I saw Kristie Allsop once at Paddington station. I always thought she looked more of an average size on TV, probably a 14, always curvy. But although she was indeed curvy, she was much, much smaller IRL, I’d say a size 10.

annie335 · 05/06/2021 07:50

I can't understand how Kate Middleton manages to have such a slim waist after the children!

Loubiemoo · 05/06/2021 07:53

Not an actress but we saw Ulrika Johnsson in the 90’s and she is both tiny and super thin. Even then, maybe only a size 6 at the absolute most.

Gensola · 05/06/2021 07:55

I met Princess Beatrice and Eugénie a couple of years ago and they are so thin in RL, in photos they look like a size 12 but in RL really skinny. It made me wonder if the camera does add lbs!

dorangme · 05/06/2021 07:56

The Kardashians are certainly curvy but you could spend between now and the end of time at the gym and you'd never achieve their curves. Because they bought them

Yes just another unrealistic shape.

aliensprig · 05/06/2021 07:57

@EmeraldShamrock

No, I have no desire to be unhealthily thin. They're most liking in the low normal range of BMI over the lower, that what happens to your body when you work out regularly, plus they're all vegans.
Vegan here 👋 believe me, most of us following a vegan lifestyle are not waifs!!

I’ve seen/met lots of celebs and just always noticed how short they were, not necessarily overly slim.

I was on tv (not acting, it was a work thing) and was dreading to see what I looked like having heard all the camera puts 10lbs on you stuff. Weirdly I looked slimmer than I imagine myself in my head. Much slimmer. And more ‘cheekboned’ than I ever thought! Was really odd. It didn’t feel like I was looking at myself at all.
I am 5’6 - around 9 stone. So BMI of about 20-21.

I think if you’ve always been thin it’s just what happens. I know several mums of three and they were thin before and went back to thin after. My DS was small so I got back my normal shape pretty quickly. However always had a tummy. Low carb was the only thing that gave me a flat tummy a couple of years later.

I was very good friends during school with a girl who was in a famous period drama while we were at school. She was normal sized 10-12 with curves and a beautiful body and ate absolutely normally, never ever worried about her appearance. We drifted apart and met about 10 years later after she’d been to a top acting school and had been trying to get work. She was super skinny. Unnaturally so. At lunch she had a salad wrap, ate half. Repeatedly commented on her size when we were young and how fat she was. It was clear that her time in the industry had a negative effect on her and it’s that which is the issue. Her size has no impact on her acting ability, but the industry now expects people in it to be very thin. For some people that are lucky they achieve that naturally, for others it takes a lot of work and they do it in probably unhealthy ways.

I remember reading an interview where an actress said I’m paid very well to be hungry all the time. That can’t be right.

applespearslemons · 05/06/2021 08:05

Yes. Whenever I see a famous person, they're always very slim. Much slimmer than they appear on tv

@Chocaholic9

I think some of the messages on here are quite mean.

I am 5ft tall and weigh just over 100lbs. People can be overweight due to medications or health conditions but it's the same with being thin. I have a painful period and can't eat for several days at the start of my period because I feel so nauseated. That stops me gaining any weight. Not everyone who is thin has an eating disorder.

I'm under 5 foot and slim. Finding it funny people are 'shocked' at other people being small. I've not meet my new team yet at work, since August. Wonder whether they'll be 'shocked' when I walk in.
dorangme · 05/06/2021 08:07

How is it that some people (ime ‘larger’ women in particular) can’t seem to understand that another women who is skinny may just happen to be that way naturally, may eat a normal diet, may not do any specific exercise yet doesn’t gain weight.
Why is there always the snide insinuation that if you are naturally thin (as many girls and women are) that you must be secretly restricting calories or perhaps even have an eating disorder

When I modelled I was naturally thin, I was a teenager, tall & ate loads. I was surrounded by many other girls like this. However when the heroin chic look became the thing I would have had to start restricting my food intake to be a size 4-6. I knew girls who were naturally slim but happened to have hips who would eat cotton wool or nothing but cigarettes & diet coke.

I still have some friends from those days, As you get older & have dc I would say it's very unusual to be very tiny without some kind of restriction. Why do people pretend people don't restrict or have disordered eating?

I thought this was about people on tv?

While it's possible she's natural skinny it's much more likely she spends a lot of time and effort maintaining her figure since she's in the spotlight. In terms of health she'd be better putting on weight, she's clearly at the very low end of the healthy BMI which is less than ideal.

Exactly. As soon as someone is over a size 8 they are written off as obese on tv. So so sad. Then you have the fact that many many men don’t fancy skinny women, so a hugely famous guy like Pierce Brosnan married a woman with curves whom he finds adorable and sexy and the media can’t stop pointing out that she’s fat! The media is skewed. It paints a very unrealistic and unhelpful picture.
Truthlikeness · 05/06/2021 08:11

I met Kate Middleton and while she was no doubt tall and slender, I was mostly transfixed by her huge eyelashes.

JinglingHellsBells · 05/06/2021 08:13

No.

Emma Thompson and Judi Dench are not tiny. Neither is Kate Winslett.

Fizbosshoes · 05/06/2021 08:13

A lot of actresses singers etc are incredibly thin and I'm sure most will have ED or exercise an excessive amount (or both) to maintain that.

I know ED are very secretive (I've had one) but its sometimes jarring to hear, when asked about their figure, them say that it's because they are "running around after their kids" or "so busy they dont eat" or that they really crave salad and steamed fish.

I'd find it refreshing to hear someone say its bloody hard work to be this thin, I only eat 1 chip a year and exercise for 5 hours a day.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 05/06/2021 08:14

When my eldest started nursery I got chatting to one of the other mums. I noticed two things about her- she was magnetic, she had one of those 1000w smiles. And she was tiny, all over. Had no idea who she was, until one of the other mums told me it was Claire Foy.

applespearslemons · 05/06/2021 08:18

Yes some people are naturally I'm

But this thread is about celebs who are unnaturally slim

It's not an accident they're so tiny

applespearslemons · 05/06/2021 08:18

Slim not I'm

dorangme · 05/06/2021 08:20

in the 1970's it was shocking for anyone to weigh 10 stone,

Did their height not make difference? My dad is 6ft 5, he would look very strange at 10 stone.

Whitney168 · 05/06/2021 08:22

@toocold54

Kate Middleton looked slim and healthy before she got married.

I always think Kate Middleton looks ill now not just because of her weight loss but she looks pale and worried too. I can only imagine how stressful it is being in the public eye which probably would lead to weight loss.

I'm always amazed to see threads like this. Kate is undeniably very slim, but always looks a picture of health to me (in photos, not seen her IRL) - good muscle definition, hair and skin.

Her parents and sister, so just seems like great genes, a healthy diet and a love of exercise to me. Obviously having money and time will help with the immaculate grooming too.

Jennifer Aniston always comes in this category for me too, shame she's messed with her face, but she just always looks lovely and have never seen her look anything but great.

There are definitely some who look far too thin, but various others mentioned on this thread just look fantastic to me.

(I am fat as butter, so very jealous!)

AllIknowsofar · 05/06/2021 08:22

I was surprised to see Jennifer Anniston and Courtney Cox look so slim on Friends The Reunion. Their waists and hips are tiny and they are both in their 50s. Courtney Cox is 56! Not changed since their 20s.
