Alcohol gives me acid reflux - what can I do?

dp says my tolerance is too low Grin

I don't drink very often / rarely drink in the house but I bloody love a drink on a night out. I'm a typical social drinker.

My tipples are prosecco, fruity cider, or gin but they ALL give me throat burn / acid and it's ruining nights out!

I'm away for a weekend with friends next week and there'll be a lot of sitting / chatting / prosecco... how can I stave it off?

Find another drink or get some lansoprazole or similar. I can get reflux after a heavy one as I have a hiatus hernia so that does help

I get acid reflux from any fizzy drinks, even sparkling water. Could you try ordinary wine or gin with a fruit juice instead of tonic?

Roonerspismed · 04/06/2021 18:38

Listen to your body and stop drinking?

Or perhaps not drink on an empty stomach?

I have this problem, doesn't matter what I drink or how much, but I have a swig of gaviscon before bed and never get reflux.

Figmentofimagination · 04/06/2021 18:56

I also get acid reflux after drinking. I have gaviscon advance liquid that I take afterwards/before bed. Doesn't stop the reflux from happening but stops it bothering me in the night.

Workyticket · 04/06/2021 18:58

Might need gaviscon in my handbag! It's during the evening out - 3 drinks in and it started last night. First time out since March 2020

I get the same, I drink dry white wine but only once or twice a week. I have accepted that gaviscon before bed is the only way.

Auntieobem · 04/06/2021 19:28

Omeprazole. That is all.

Notavegan · 04/06/2021 19:29

Nexium control is over the counter

Passthewinebottle · 04/06/2021 19:33

This happens to me too - I always have omeprazole (OTC) in the house!

Ninkanink · 04/06/2021 19:35

Just have tonic on ice with lemon or lime. You really won’t miss the gin. Well maybe a bit. But it’s almost as good...

Workyticket · 04/06/2021 19:44

I don't want to not drink!

I know! And I sympathise...but needs must!

rc22 · 04/06/2021 20:16

Have a glass of water on the go alongside your g and t, prosecco and match each sip if your alcoholic drink with a sip of water. Then indigestion remedy before bed.
