The real risks of withdrawal method?

LeRisqueDisco · 03/06/2021 23:44

Ok, so, I know it’s supposedly an ineffective method but is it more ineffective if the man has ejaculated already that ?day or ?few hours before as there are speem there already that may leak out?

So if a man hasn’t ejaculated that day already then it’s less risky? Or can sperm make their way out early 🤷‍♀️🤔
Sorry !

It's not effective, full stop. Makes no difference if he's ejaculated the same day or not. Don't rely on it, get yourself some reliable contraception ir insist he wears a condom if you don't want to risk a pregnancy.

Wallywobbles · 03/06/2021 23:50

I have 2 teens born using this method. Top method for getting pregnant in my experience.

So it can just be that a few eager ones can come out early . I thought so. DP was telling me no it’s definitely only a risk if he’s already ejaculated in the few hours beforehand as ‘there will be some left behind but it wouldn’t be ‘new’ ones getting out early’

It's a great way to get pregnant.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 03/06/2021 23:55

He is so cute, my little withdrawal baby❤️

Foobydoo · 03/06/2021 23:56

It reduces your chance of getting pregnant as opposed to using nothing but has a higher failure rate than other methods.
We were married, didn't actively want another dc but it wasn't the end of the world if I fell pregnant. We used a mixture of this method and natural family planning for 5 years then dd2 came along.
If pregnancy would be a disaster for you dont do it. If you don't actively want a baby but wouldn't mind if it happened then it is fine and better than nothing.

I have an almost two year old after using this method for 10 years, so it actually worked quite well for us until it didn't.

Providora · 03/06/2021 23:57

It's fairly obvious if you ever perform oral on him isn't it?

I don't think the ineffectiveness of this method has anything to do with how many times a man has or hasn't ejaculated that day. It's the fact that there could be sperm present prior to ejaculation. During that particular act you are performing. To answer your question, the real risk of withdrawal method is pregnancy. So unless that's what you are going for, please get some proper contraception.
Foxhasbigsocks · 04/06/2021 00:05

It’s ok for aiming to space babies but not for totally avoiding pg.

If you practice very careful avoidance of fertile days using natural family planning (as per the Toni wechsler book) and have a regular cycle, then that plus withdrawal has a pretty good success rate (not an hcp at all so no expertise).

However, wouldn’t use if you want to reliably avoid pg.

DNTSleepingDragons · 04/06/2021 00:05

Does your partner have no understanding of basic biology? Does he actually think that’s how his body works? Honestly, google male sexual reproduction and both of you have a read.

miltonj · 04/06/2021 00:21

Apparently some men have sperm on their pre cum and others don't. Obviously if he didn't then you would be fine.... but I don't think there's anyway of knowing Grin

Also your partner has completely misunderstood how sex works. And what he's said is actually quite gross because if you read between the lines he doesn't wash his Willy after he's cum...

MouseholeCat · 04/06/2021 01:32

It's not really things like whether the man has already ejaculated that day that cause the risk with the withdrawal method. It's the fact that a penis is entering a vagina and there is no barrier or preventative from stopping the sperm from meeting an egg in the fallopian tubes. If sperm is there, there is a risk and you have no way of truly knowing if it is, or preventing the sperm from being there.

If you're avoiding pregnancy, don't use this method.

BreedingOinkers · 04/06/2021 03:04

it’s a shame your sex education was so woefully lacking

alexdgr8 · 04/06/2021 03:13

why is he trying to promote this method.

RiriM · 04/06/2021 03:14

In my experience it has been a reliable method. Me and my partner used this method for 10 years and I didn’t get pregnant accidentally. I thought we must have some fertility issues. But last year, we tried for a baby and I got pregnant the first month.

Suzi888 · 04/06/2021 03:22

Oh good grief. I imagine he’s promoting this method because he hates the feel of condoms and if you get pregnant (which you will) he can say, “when are you getting an abortion?”

If you don’t want a baby, use at least one reliable form of contraception.

Aquamarine1029 · 04/06/2021 04:01

Your partner isn't very bright, is he?

LEMtheoriginal · 04/06/2021 04:28

Worked for us for 15 years. Then it didn't

ChristmasUserName2020 · 04/06/2021 07:14

I’d say the real risk is getting pregnant and of course STDs.
