DH is desperate to live abroad, having lived in the UK all of his life. As son of Irish parents who settled here in the 1950's, moving abroad seems to be a thing that all of his family members do. He has now equipped himself with an Irish passport. Since the pandemic, he has changed to doing work that can be done from home, anywhere with an internet connection. He isn't that bothered where abroad we move to. He just fancies living in another country.
The problem with moving abroad, is that I wonder if I will be happy disconnected from family and friends. As I wouldn't be working, I fear I could end up quite isolated, particularly if I can't speak the language. Obviously I would be keen and willing to learn the language of any country we move to, but realistically, it would take time. Moving abroad, would mean that we could only connect with existing family and friends by Zoom for the most part. We are both in our late 50s if that makes any difference.
Has anyone else had any experience of settling in another country. If so, do you have any tips for settling elsewhere in the world?
