Reception to yr 1 books over the summer?

I wanted to get a few books for Ds to read over the summer holidays and wondered if anyone has any ideas? He's currently reading phase 3 phonics (I don't know if it is a standardised structure? His school books are by Rigby). Simple sentences, words like prowling, poaching.

I wondered if the Ladybird read it yourself books are any good, and whether level 2 would be similar to what he's currently on, if anyone has experience of these?

He's not mad about reading, probably prefers non fiction, but is better focused reading himself than listening to me read to him. He's made reasonable progress this year and I don't want him to slip back by September.

I used the ladybird books with mine (slightly older boys now) also usbourne had a great selection - I just can't think off the top of my head what books in particular at the moment.
Your local library would be great suggestions if you call in with a sample of what he currently reads.

We have the set of Biff/Chip books, and they have 5 stages. If he can successfully read Poaching then probably is on level 4 or 5 at least of those.
