Airbnb, how clean do we need to leave the accommodation?

We plan to:

Wash up
Strip all bed linen
Sweep floors
Put towels on a wash (all used)
Clean all surfaces
Make sure shower and loo are clean

Obviously we'll bin all rubbish / take what we need.

Anything else? FWIW we need to leave early (9am) and have 3 young kids and a tonne of shit to take home.

From what owners on here have said, don't run the dishwasher (or at least, don't leave it running - my mistake) and definitely don't wash the towels.

What are you supposed to do if your want breakfast and there's an early check out time?
AtoZed · 03/06/2021 14:04

Friends of mine who run 2 air BnB accommodations just ask that the rubbish/recycling is put out.

Washing up she prefers to be left in a washing up bowl so she can put it through the dishwasher.

Everything else, towels, bedding she sends out to be laundered so she prefers them left in situ so she can pack them ready to go.

I've seen the list of cleaning that needs doing after guests leave and it's a lot.

Wash up by hand

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/06/2021 14:09

We:-
Load and turn on the dishwasher
Strip the beds and pile all linen at the washing machine or on the landing (a common request)
Wipe down kitchen surfaces if crumbly
Check the loo pan - loo brush if needed
All rubbish and recycling put in the right place.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 03/06/2021 14:14

Unless specifically stated, we wash up dishes and leave towels in a pile. Don't strip beds. Don't have children though so don't make much mess. Bins we leave as usually not very obvious where the bins go. Hoovering/mopping sounds like far too much, I would only do that type of cleaning if there was a spillage of some sort. Have always gotten great reviews and they mention that the place is left tidy

We have always paid a cleaning fee so all we do is get rid of rubbish and clean any crockery or silverware.

memberofthewedding · 03/06/2021 16:31

If you paying a cleaning fee do not do anything other than throw out your specific rubbish. If they attempt to with-hold any of your deposit have your card company do a chargeback.

Sorry, not sure what you mean? There is no deposit to be withheld.

We paid a fee and that is it (including cleaning and service charge)

You do way more than I do. We pay a cleaning fee so dishes washed and put away, rubbish put out and house tidy but beds not stripped unless specifically asked.

UmamiMammy · 03/06/2021 22:38

I make sure that:-
Everything is put back where we found it. Empty the bins
Strip beds if asked
Leave all towels in the bath
Floor swept,
toilets clean,
fridge cleared.
Currently in an Airb& b!!!

Elouera · 03/06/2021 22:52

I've stayed in many Air BNB's. You are paying a cleaning fee, so I'm amazed you think washing towels is standard and the people that are clearly going beyond the norm! Its not a friends house, you are paying for it! I'd wash cutlery, plates etc. If they are dry, I'd put them away, otherwise leave them in the drying rack. Sweep up crumbs on the floor and put the rubbish bins out if requested, but otherwise not do a deep clean myself when I'm already paying someone else to do! Confused

ilovebagpuss · 03/06/2021 22:52

Just done this and had a great review. Towels in bath as requested
Bins taken out Including bathroom bin
Floor swept
Fridge empty
Surfaces wiped in kitchen and cooker left clean
Washed up
Bath rinsed out as sand in bottom

I would not hoover or clean the bathroom
We did not strip beds
No dusting

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 03/06/2021 23:15

I'd leave it how I found it.
nothing more, nothing less

What do you mean though?

You wash and redo the bedding and towels? You do a full clean?

AppleKatie · 04/06/2021 07:50

Leave dishwasher running (last air bnb I stayed in actually asked for this- and with extended changeover times for extra Covid cleaning this should not be an issue).
Empty bins (if asked)
Put towels in bath (if asked)
Put anything I’ve moved back in the correct place.
Check the loo the DCs have used is not beyond the pail.

That’s it. They will clean, they will hoover and actually sometimes it’s easier to see what needs doing properly when a half assed job hasn’t been done before the cleaner gets there.

Obviously we don’t live like total pigs whilst we are there, clean up as we go etc so its not like any place we are leaving is totally disgusting.

AppleKatie · 04/06/2021 07:51

Ps- never had anything other than a glowing review from air bnb either.
