We’ve an open plan flat with hall, living, dining, kitchen all in one room. At the moment, we’ve kitchen units against the wall and opposite, freestanding, the sink and dishwasher plus a cupboard. There is a bar along these units, which are half the length of the units along the wall.
We’re thinking of extending the “island” to the the same length as the other side.
DH wants a large surface, so the bar surface would effectively go down to the level of the sink.
I’m not convinced as I like that the bar shields the kitchen from the rest of the room.
Would a bar for half the length and then a lower flat surface for half look weird?
