I love a good period ďrama. Especially one with dry wit.

I loved Parades End ages ago, Downton (obviously) and, hmmmm am currently watching peaky blinders (Very different vibe from country houses and toffs) .

Viewing suggestions gratefully appreciated.

It's old, but you might like the Camomile Lawn.

Brideshead, and passage to India - the old TV series
Rebecca - the one from the 90s
Remains of the day film
Gosford park film
House of Elliot and Selfridge - I haven’t watched either but right era
I captured the castle film and book
Also if you like reading you might enjoy the Elizabeth Jane Howard cazelets chronicles

I've got upon Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Historical and starring Lily James because she was excellent in The Pursuit of Love. Plus its got lovely Matthew Goode in it.

I'm also eyeing up Gentleman Jack on iPlayer but I think of the main actress as Dr Foster which is off putting.

North and south on iPlayer

North and South a good shout. I've never read the book and I like to watch things that feature books I have no patience to read nowadays.

I keep wanting to watch an adaptation of vanity fair for the same reason.

I have been watching US high school films from the 90s so I feel a change of pace coming on.

The Pursuit Of Love made me want to watch the whole of Brideshead again 😍

ZenNudist · 01/06/2021 23:12

I reread Brideshead quite recently and loved it. It wasn't the jolly country house jape I remembered from my teens. I would like to watch a tv adaptation but I feel they would miss the strong religion theme as I dont see how you could adapt it.

I had the pursuit of Love as holiday reading but now want to find a different Mitford read. I've read everything by Evelyn Waugh and I think some of the Mitfords (Nancy?) hit the same tone but from a female perspective.
