How long is the wait for theory and practical tests these days? I heard there was a bit of a backlog since covid.

DD has just passed her theory she waited around a month for that, practical she had just booked for Jan 2022 but her instructor has managed to get her a cancellation for Oct

Lettitbee · 01/06/2021 20:23

We can't find any appointments at all anywhere in Manchester, so up to year I think.

ab21 · 01/06/2021 20:32

Apparently they've stopped booking tests altogether in my local area at the moment. Prior to that, 2022 was the earliest dates. Aargh.

Rillington · 01/06/2021 20:34

Those trying to book check multiple times a day. I managed to get my DD a test last year in the few days that tests were allowed.

triptrapdollydumpling · 01/06/2021 20:36

November for us!

ComDummings · 01/06/2021 20:36

Feb 2022 in my area

whatsnext2 · 01/06/2021 20:36

@Rillington @ab21 where are you? Thanks

shewalkslikerihanna · 01/06/2021 20:40

Too long
I have my grandson £1000 of lessons and tests last June for his 17th birthday
It’s been a right shit show
He should’ve had the test under his belt to go to uni in September

He’s still to take his theory.😡

Got another 17th birthday in November...
I’m wondering if I should postpone it for a year.

Has anyone tried one of the cancellation apps such as Testi? Are these only last minute cancellations or is it possible to get one a few months out if you're extremely lucky?

Barely any cancellations come up, nobody is cancelling because they know they’ll have to wait months and months
blahblahblah321 · 01/06/2021 20:47

October here

LipstickLou · 01/06/2021 20:50

Gov website says 17 weeks.

Rillington · 01/06/2021 20:56

Midlands.

imumme · 01/06/2021 22:49

None in our local test centre. Managed to get one at another test centre, a bit further away for November. Learning the test routes will be a pain, but at least it's a test!

AlanThePig · 01/06/2021 23:42

My friend is trying to book her dd in at the moment. She tells me it's November here in Staffs.

Sanguinesuzy · 02/06/2021 00:47

June next year for the practical one. Greater Manchester Shock

NannyAndJohn · 02/06/2021 01:07

"We regret to inform all learners that due to the Covid crisis we have had to temporarily suspend all bookings for our practical tests. We hope to reopen as soon as possible with dates starting from the end of 2022."

MaidenoftheSpear · 02/06/2021 01:19

Theory tests are available from this month here (east mids) but practical- bugger all. Very very frustrating!

imumme · 02/06/2021 11:18

@NannyAndJohn

Where is that?? It's shocking!!

ab21 · 02/06/2021 11:54

Was chatting to my friend who's a driving instructor this morning. May be specific to our local centre only, but she said the issue is that people can currently cancel their tests on the day itself. As a result, some people leave cancelling until an hour or two before the test at which point it's very difficult to find someone to take the cancelled test.

The driving instructors are apparently frustrated as they are available for tests but are sitting around with cancelled tests and no one to fill many of them. She thinks they're going to revert to the previous system which had a 3 day notice period to cancel tests which should give people time to fill available slots.

ab21 · 02/06/2021 11:55

Sorry, examiners not driving instructors
