What are all your pre teens/teens doing in this nice weather?

DS is 12, I'm finding it a really tricky age. I'm used to cramming our time with play dates/days out with friends etc. He's too old for me to organise his social life for him anymore and doesn't really want to do anything just with me.

Today he's sat on his phone in the garden for a bit, had a birthday lunch out with DH and his gran and is now on the xbox.

He does meet friends in town and for biking. Are others sat in their rooms?

DD is 14 and in their usual half term mode of lying in bed on WhatsApp, watching anime and occasionally surfacing to forage for crisps
DS is not good in heat and known to collapse so is drinking water all day, watching YouTube. He did pop out for a walk with me earlier in in the morning before it got hot and found someone had left a scooter skateboard thingy out for free so was chuffed. He's 12.

Terryscombover · 01/06/2021 16:48

DD12 - scooting, ipad, paddling pool and park. Actually she's been out doors and busy for three hours today so I'll take that as a win

DD9 - the same!

Yes i'm afraid this is the case a lot for us too and DS is 11! Even when friends are round they'll connect ipads and login to the same game to play 'together.' I do all i can to get them out an limit screen time but they're only just of an age where they sort of still listen. Although for good behaviour at school he got a crazy e-bike, it's completely age appropriate for him, needs charging and battery life is not very long but its definitely made him rush home to rush back out again which hasn't been happening too often lately. It's more the phone that bothers me with his constant 'youtube' watching. Unfortunately (rather fortunately for me) he dropped it the other day and the screen is completely broken. I will replace it but i'll be taking my time... Grin

I've currently got one gone to visit his grandfather and the other is gardening.

Sounds virtuous, but they do spend time on devices as well.

Trayble · 01/06/2021 16:51

DD 16 is at the beach with her friends
DS 14 has just finished a drama workshop he doing this week and is now on his PlayStation

FATEdestiny · 01/06/2021 17:04

DS15 will be mostly found:

Jumping in the canal and generally messing in outdoor public water / sunbathing / flirting

Fishing

Biking to find new places to do one of the above (I allow him a 15 mile radius, as long as he keeps tracking on so I can always find him)

Football on local recreational area

He is very outdoorsy, always has been.

DD16 spends most of her time in her room. Occasionally walks with mates, picnics or BBQs with mates in public spaces, baking, shopping / window shopping, going out for food / fetching food

DinosApple · 01/06/2021 17:05

Two DDs 10 & 11 (nearly 12).

This morning out playing croquet in the garden, paddling pool is out (but that's more DD2's style). Eldest does a mix of phone, reading, playing and she's just been round to a friend's for a pool party.

DD2 currently has a friend over and they are outside chatting on the trampoline.

We've also camped out in the garden for a night and DD2 did a dance club.
There's been talk of a family bike ride but I'm keeping quiet as it gives me a sore bum! DH can take them!

It's a mix really, and as the weather has been shite for so long, this is the most vitamin D either has had probably since last Autumn.
Its been books, phones, tablets and Switch for a looong time.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 01/06/2021 17:11

14yo is in a darkened room playing videogames
earlier she was in a very slightly less darkened room drawing and painting. She has only put shoes on to eat lunch in the garden with DC2 and me.

To be fair she went to the park yesterday, and an exhibition on Sunday (Grayson's Art Club which was ace). She will probably join DC2 and me going into town tomorrow as well.

Lowlight282 · 01/06/2021 18:12

Thanks everyone, it sounds like we're pretty 'normal' here then. It feels like a big shift from pre lockdown when he was in primary school and we'd spend long afternoons in the parks/NT properties/picnics etc.

I'm hoping with more time he'll get out and about a bit more, the mountain biking seems to be taking off so that's good.

We're going to the coast tomorrow for a walk with the dog and then I expect the afternoon will be more xbox time. I just feel a bit redundant all of a sudden!

DD14
In the park with her mates
In the park with her mates
Yesterday at the beach with her mates
Today she came furniture shopping with us this morning, now in the park with her mates.

I'm trying to encourage cinema or something for variety later in the week.

Sweettea1 · 01/06/2021 19:15

Dragged my ds13 out on a family day to a local seaside resort had a picnic and went into arcades. Ds sat there moaning the whole time and couldn't wait to get back home to ps4. Fed up off him not wanting to take part in anything.

Pre teens here.
We’ve been away for the weekend so today allowed more time online. Morning was spent on their devices as not much time on them over the weekend.
Took them swimming to an outdoor pool early afternoon.
Home for lunch then park and ice cream with grandparents.
DS went to a friend’s to work on a school project and has now gone to his table tennis club.
DD did a face mask and painted her nails, watched YouTube and is now watching babysitters club on Netflix.
