How does this actually work?

So if they say coming between 1-4pm does that mean they'll be here by 4 and work after that or here in time to have finished by 4 but arrive after 1?

Sorry - not the most interesting thread Grin

It probably means they will arrive any time between 1 and 4pm and then take whatever amount of time to do the repair

It means if you're out until 13.00 that they'll turn up at 12:55 and say you're not in. Or if you diligently wait in, they'll turn up at 16.45, when you're on the loo. You may or may not get a call.

Joking aside, it'll likely be arriving anytime between 1 and 4 and may finish after 4.

Thanks.

Well I had my answer.

My HA had a job delayed due to covid today and said between 1-4.30.

By 4.25 I'm thinking surely they won't turn up now as I know they stop actually working at 4.30pm.
(Had prescription to collect so didn't want to be stuck in until 5.30 when chemist closes).

Bang on 4.30pm I get a repair text "a repair has been booked for xxxxxx on Friday between 10-2"

I rang their office and said - "no it's not! I waited in all afternoon and I'm not giving up another day of my AL in case they decide to turn up this time"

Rebooked for summer when I'm next off. It's not urgent (plastering) after a leak that was fixed as emergency during lockdown. It's in a cupboard as came from roof so isn't a bother. And I've waited since January so another 7 weeks doesn't bother me.

I had two roofers coming today to give quotes. The first one said he would come at 10.00, turned up at 9.30. The second one supposed to come at 1.00 and came at 11.45. I was lucky today, tradesmen usually arrive late or not at all. Still waiting for a third one who said he would come last Saturday!

It's like they think we just sit around all day waiting for them to turn up!

I once had a shitty letter about not being in for my annual gas inspection. And the threats of eviction if we don't let them in as required by law etc etc.

Not really shocking I wasn't in as it was term time and school hours and so I was in a classroom teaching - oh - and they'd forgotten an important point - to actually tell me they were coming 🤦🏼‍♀️

When I rang up to reschedule the very young sounding me kept telling me I really have to be in and repeating what was on the letter. Even when I kept saying I'd have rescheduled if the told me they were coming he carried on. He told me 3 times I could risk being evicted if I didn't let them in. I repressed each time then karts make an appointment I know is happening when I can and will be!

So I asked if it was a requirement for me to sit in my house 24/7 365 days of the year in case they decide to turn up unexpectedly.

He told me not to be so rude Shock so I suggested I recorded this phone call and played it back to him so he stopped being so daft and patronising and I'd be more than happy to raise a complaint with the landlord.
