By voice I mean accent. He's given me permission to post a short soundclip of his voice. He's moved abroad and learned English quite later on in life.

Wow that’s fascinating, he has a gorgeous voice. I got hints of Dutch (the kind of shhhlur sound you hear commonly in a Dutch accent, I don’t know its proper name), some American and some Irish. Perfectly understandable and really lovely to listen to. I’d say 20-30s. Get him to do a podcast 😁

Inextremis · 01/06/2021 12:02

Brit living in Ireland here - I hear a soft American accent with a touch of Irish - but the way he says 'Ireland' is unusual. I can understand him just fine - he has a lovely voice - as for age - could be anything from 20-40. No idea about race - does that actually affect an accent? I wouldn't have thought so!

CoronaBanana · 01/06/2021 12:02

I can't hear any American.
I thought he sounded Dutch/Scandinavian. Easy to understand, sounds around 20s/30s??

Woollff · 01/06/2021 12:02

Nice voice easy to understand. Sounds a bit like those more unusual Canadian accents, there used to be a reporter on TV with a very unusual accent. I can hear the Irish twang. lol Definitely not Dutch (my Mum is Dutch). He talks a bit like my colleague who is Korean, but no ‘race’ discernible from the voice.

Fainasnowchild · 01/06/2021 12:03

Race wise for reasons that I cannot explain but gave something to do with voice timbre, I would have guessed at East Asian.

You can hear American and Irish in his accent. No trace of East African English that I can discern!

VettiyaIruken · 01/06/2021 12:07

I struggled on a couple of words but overall absolutely fine.

Accent - there's an American twang over the top of what sounds like a mix of Nordic - big areas I know. I get that impression mostly from his S. and possibly Irish (Republic not Northern Ireland).
Age - no idea.
Race - no idea.

SquirrelFan · 01/06/2021 12:08

If he's having trouble making himself understood, I'd guess it is because his accent is so unusual, rather than unintelligible. The way he said Ireland is extremely Irish - Oyer-land - but the rest of his accent sounds American /Afrikaans /Dutch! It's a real mix. His age? 20-40. Race - I too heard East Asian.

AutoIncorrect · 01/06/2021 12:12

Dutch, American and Irish. Can understand him clearly, he sounds Caucasian to me.

AutoIncorrect · 01/06/2021 12:12

And I’d say late 20’s for age.

katplva · 01/06/2021 12:15

I have no problem in understanding him at all. I’d say his accent sounds American with bits of Irish intonation and also some Dutch/Scandinavian ‘s’ sounds, which is quite international! He sounds young-ish so 20-40? No idea on race as I don’t think he has a recognisable or set accent that could identify his race. Please let us know the answers!

SoLongSister · 01/06/2021 12:18

Love his accent! Could easily understand it.

Very American bit slipped into Irish when talking about Ireland.

No idea of race or age.

CormoranStrike · 01/06/2021 12:19

I hear American, Northern European and I thought the way he pronounced Ireland was unusual.

I would say he is in his late 20s, and his voice/accent gave me no clue to his race at all.

isthismylifenow · 01/06/2021 12:27

I could understand him, he sounded more Irish and a bit American to me.

I live in South Africa and I didn't pick up any African accent at all. If mentioning where he was born is relevant.

I think he is Caucasian and late 20's, early 30's .

magicstar1 · 01/06/2021 12:29

I’m Irish, and I think he sounds like an American who’s lived here for a few years. I’d say he’s early 30s and white.

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/06/2021 12:32

East African Asian. Starts off as American, ends as Irish. American is standard American, a bit like kids in an international school. Perfectly clear. Mid 30s to early 40s?

blahblahblah321 · 01/06/2021 12:33

Ooh he's got a lovely voice! I agree with a previous poster that he should make a podcast Smile

I think he sounds like he's from Asia

GreyHare · 01/06/2021 12:34

Dutch Canadian and a soupçon of Irish.

Lifesadream78 · 01/06/2021 12:34

It's very clear to understand. No idea about age, as a wild guess, 40ish?

JaneJeffer · 01/06/2021 12:38

The way he says right is very Irish but the way he says Ireland is very stage Irish. I'd say he's in his thirties and easy to understand except for his first name!

Tuckedinbelly · 01/06/2021 12:39

Is it an AI voice?! Super unusual but understandable

SpindleWhorl · 01/06/2021 12:41

American/Canadian with a dash of Afrikaans?

Was 'Orr-e-land' supposed to be Ireland? Really?!

RevolutionRadio · 01/06/2021 12:43

I could understand the clip but I imagine he was trying to talk clearly for the purpose of the clip. If he normally talks faster it would be harder for me to process, until I got used to talking to him.

I have no idea on accent except American, a bit Irish in places.

I guess 30s or 40s for age.

Myshitisreal · 01/06/2021 12:45

I'm northern Irish. He's very easy to understand, and I only hear a hint of Irish accent When he says "right" and "Ireland", otherwise he just sounds American. But it feels like false American if that makes sense. My. Instinct says he's white but I've nothing of substance to base that on.

He sounds very lovely and pleasant. I could imagine him doing voice over work

IWishIWasABaller · 01/06/2021 12:46

I'm guessing in his 30's perfectly understandable! Got the Irish almost immediately, also the American accent with a hint of dutch / south African ?

Nightbear · 01/06/2021 12:48

Totally understandable but I have no idea as to age or race. Can people really say what race someone is by their voice? Some of his consonants sound like Dutch or Danish speakers can when they’re speaking English.
