Is this a legal matter/trading standards issue/other?

Posting here for traffic and wisdom.

We own a static caravan on a site owned by a National company. Begins with p.

Each November we get sent a form asking which services we want over the winter. In 2020 we chose carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning and the drain down we always get plus a jet wash for the exterior. Never had the carpets etc done before. We were asked to pay for all this in November in full which we did and assured the cleaning would be done in feb ready for the site opening in March.

Site didn't open until April due to covid but anyway we rock up in April and low and behold the fitted furniture is looking gleaming and oddly they have cleaned the rest of the van including the oven?? But not the carpets. And no jet wash.

The office apologise and state they are behind due to covid and carpets will be done before our first stay. I'm sympathetic so I say ok no worries.

We come back in the Easter hols. Still no carpet cleaning has happened. Not jet wash. I go and complain a lot and an hour later the jet wash man turns up washes half the van and leaves.

The next weekI get very grumpy in the office and the site manager turns up and puts us in a room and tells us the carpet cleaning machine? Person? Has not yet arrived on site and he doesn't know what will happen....they now have no jet wash man anyway.

I tell him I'm having a refund now. He says ok I can refund your company account so it will be £150 in credit. I'm not happy but whatever.

In the mean time my neighbour hires a jet wash company who arrives a day later. We also hire them. So do about another 5 vans.

About 75 emails later including to head office we have no fecking refund still. In the last one they took my card number to refund directly....and still nothing.

Please can someone advise what I do now? Thank you

Hello, I’d suggest that you now write a ‘letter before action’ to the company. If you Google, this term, citizens advice bureau or a similar organisation should have a template you can use. You have a ‘civil’ claim against the company because you have paid for services that you haven’t received, and this would be heard in the small claims court because of the low value of the amount in dispute. It sounds like your main objective is to get the money back, so hopefully this letter will do the trick as it is essentially a warning shot that you will be taking the matter to court if you do not receive the refund that is due (suggest you say, payment must be made within 7 days of the letter). You can also mention in the letter that you are considering reporting the matter to Trading Standards if your refund is not provided within the timeframe stated in the letter (although, depending which Trading Standards body is involved, they may be reluctant to intervene).

If you do not receive the refund by the deadline you’ve stipulated, then you can issue a claim in the small claims court (again citizens advice bureau or a pro Bono legal organisation can assist you with this). It sounds a fairly straightforward case so you should have no problem getting the money back if you go to court.

Or if you fancy 5 minutes of fame, you could always take the case to Judge Rinder Grin

Yes I agree. Letter before claim (there are templates on the internet) setting out what you are claiming and why.

Give them 7 or 14 days to respond them lodge a small claims online.

Oh dear that's shocking, we have a static with the p company too. Which site is it? Ours begins with S? Can you contact the general manager of the site?

The site has recently been renamed LP holiday park.

Everyone else thank you I really appreciate it. I will draft the letter before action
