Inexpensive bedding

Can anyone recommend bedding that is quite cheap but good quality. I want one or two king size duvet sets. I have put off buying because we were planning to buy a new bed (probably super king) but that's realistically a 6-12 months away as we are concentrating on other things.

We have one duvet set, which is mostly fine as I wash and put it on the same day, but I need at least one more for washing when this isn't possible and also want something slightly nicer as this one was coloured to match the decor in our old house. I don't want to spend a lot since we are likely to get a bigger bed.

Probably just something plain / one colour.

I'm thinking supermarkets may be the best place or somewhere like Matalan?

Another vote for Asda, they last so well

The4ks · 31/05/2021 17:36

Definitely Dunelm. Massive choice online, great price and nice quality.

@ElderMillennial

Thanks all

I'll look at those

We have a super king duvet on a king bed - could you not do that?

Sorry I don't follow. How would that help me?

It would mean buying a super king duvet now, as well as bedding, which seems silly when we haven't got the bed yet and it is possible we would buy a different size bed.

I always have a duvet that is a size up. So a single bed would have a double duvet, a double bed would have a king etc.

And what's the benefit of that @3Britnee?

I don't think I would like the excess fabric

IKEA bedding is an odd shape. Primark lasts very well.

3Britnee · 31/05/2021 18:34

So you have more blanket to wrap up in and stick your feet out of 😂

In all seriousness though, I find bigger blankets are better when there's two of you.

It's just personal preference.

@ElderMillennial

And what's the benefit of that *@3Britnee*?

I don't think I would like the excess fabric

I think the poster means that she has the duvet (and therefore the duvet cover too) one size up. Not just the cover so no excess fabric

I do this too as I have found that if you do same size duvet as the bed it doesn’t look good on the bed. I like it to hang over the side and you also get more to yourself too

percheron67 · 31/05/2021 19:02

Try charity shops. i have found top brands at times. Just wash before you use.

3Britnee · 31/05/2021 19:04

Yes, duvet and duvet cover.

TwigTheWonderKid · 31/05/2021 19:07

When I want white but not boring I buy from Dusk

ElderMillennial · 31/05/2021 20:15

@3Britnee @Womencanlift Oh I see. Yes I can see how a super king duvet would work in a king bed

Another vote for Amazon - really lovely quality, arrived next day and it's washed really well.

WhatsGoingOnHereThen · 31/05/2021 20:35

I LOVE my Asda sets.

Had fitted sheets from Amazon and no matter how many times they were washed, the dye leaked and dyed the rest of the wash. Every. Fucking. Time.

user123532 · 31/05/2021 20:43

Another vote here for Asda

CleanHankie · 31/05/2021 20:45

Another vote for Asda. Also Wilko. They do a large range of plain coloured sheets and pillow cases which I've always appreciated.

MyNameForToday1980 · 31/05/2021 20:46

Our backup set is from IKEA, 100% cotton (which is important as I'm a sensitive soul), perfectly decent.

3Britnee · 31/05/2021 22:35

IKEA have weird sizing, so unless you get the duvet from there too, the covers won't fit properly.

AnyFucker · 31/05/2021 22:38

Dunelm

OnionsAreToxic · 31/05/2021 22:39

TK Maxx have lovely bedding at bargain prices

Palavah · 31/05/2021 22:41

Assuming you're thinking about getting a bigger bed you could get superking bedding now. If you get a flat sheet there's no issue and as PP have said lots of people prefer to size up on duvet anyway.

LIZS · 31/05/2021 22:45

M and S and Next do packs of two sets

userxx · 31/05/2021 22:45

Another vote for Asda. 100% cotton one is lovely.

Teessider · 31/05/2021 22:50

I've found it's a false economy to but cheap. One bought from Sainsbury's and Argos before and it's just horrible and looks like a rag within a couple of washes

I buy white company 200 thread count now - there's always a 15% code off knocking about which makes it more reasonable

Blueberrycreampie · 31/05/2021 22:52

I buy Egyptian cotton ones from Wilko. I was in a rush and no other shops nearby, but they have been great and I have now bought more. Sometimes there' 25% off!

Laufeythejust · 31/05/2021 22:59

I buy tescos and find it washes really well. M and S too (only when there’s a sparks card discount going!).
