Homemade bubble mixture?

BIL appeared with a fancy bubble machine for the kids yesterday, it works marvellously but the kids burned through just over a litre of mixture in half an hour Shock I don't mind them using it at all, it's great fun and I love bubbles too! But I can't afford to keep buying mixture when they use it so quickly, I know it's fairly cheap stuff but it adds up when you go through it that fast.

What's your best recipe for homemade bubble mixture? Smile

1 part washing up liquid and 6 parts water. If you have glycerin add a teaspoon foe better bubbles. It isn't necessary though.
Also don't mix it vigorously, just a gentle stir so you don't create a foam.

The one above is a good starting point, although on a hot dry day you may need more water.

Green fairy liquid seems to work best and it helps to let the mix sit for a while before using it. Ideally overnight.

I've never had success with the home made tbh.

Definitely add glycerin, as that makes the bubbles stretch without bursting.

Or just order a large bottle of the normal stuff from Amazon? It's much cheaper that way.

Oh yes, agreed, more water on hot days.

A couple of years ago I developed my own giant bubble mix - have a look for some guar gum recipes if you want to make big bubbles (there are other more unusual options 😬) but for a regular bubble machine the fairy liquid and glycerin options should be enough
