Moving to Kelvedon in Essex

Hi Everyone,

I am a single mum to a 5 year old and looking to move from central London to Kelvedon for a fresh start. I have no family support in or around the area so will be completely alone.

I have read a few threads about mums feeling isolated and being ignored by other mums. I have also read posts about the area being predominantly for families and not single people.

I work full time in the public sector but currently work from home due to COVID. I need good transport links but also need to be in an area when me and my daughter would “fit in” due to moving alone.

Advice would be appreciated!

Thank you

If you are going to be having to travel to a central London office even for one or two days a week in future, look at the rail options both in theory and practice. Experience from colleagues who have lived on that corridor is that it was not the most reliable pre-pandemic, though nowhere near the issues Southern experienced.

I don’t live in Kelvedon, but my son’s at the school. It’s a large school but provides an excellent education and is very friendly and nurturing. I’m a working mum and my son started later, but we easily made friends. The surrounding villages are nice ( Coggeshall is lovely), with lots of families and related activities. There’s a nice diversity of families, many working parents and single-parent families. DH commuted for years and it was generally fine but I would suggest a back up plan as when the line shuts, it can be down for a while ( we learned that the hard way one day we were both in London!)

I love locally, it's a lovely area and the surrounding towns have lots of activities Smile
