Anyone know about diamonds? Cuts? Colour?

There was another thread a few weeks ago but I can't find it

DP is buying me a commitment ring, no engagement as neither of us want to get married again

I like pear shaped and emerald cuts

But what's to best shape to go for that won't date?
Do I need a whole carat?
I just want a diamond, no colour
Definitely platinum though

Just wondering if anyone is a jeweller or knows more than me who can advise please

Something to bare in mind, is also how it will sit with a wedding band. Styles like that often sit low to the finger and can't have a simple band ring as a wedding ring, this isn't an issue as such but you need to consider what you will want your wedding ring to look like with it. When we are helping engagement ring customers choose, we always look at the wedding ring options too, just to give you a feel of what it might be.

The op said she isn't planning on marriage so she may be ok without a wedding ring Grin

Apologies op, didn't see that bit, that opens up a whole load of different options to you! Definitely go and try lots on, much like clothes, what looks nice in picture May not look as nice or suit you when on!

If you find the right jeweller the whole experience should be amazing, trying on all sorts of gorgeous jewellery and narrowing down to the perfect design. You could consider having something bespoke made. Most independent jewellers will have that option.

Ooh also while I think about it, with fancy cuts, give the jeweller a call first and make an appointment. They may be able to get additional things in for you to see with some notice. They will have less range of these sorts of cuts than the more popular brilliant cuts.

I have an emerald, it's a family ring that I had reset.

The trouble with emerald cuts is the clarity & colour often has to be better then other cuts so if you want a big one its ££££.

Also emeralds don't sparkle as much as other rings. I adore my one though, just glad it was an heirloom!
