3 am ferry panic!

DH and I are meant to be getting a ferry from A to B tomorrow to attend a wedding. I don’t know what made me check but about an hour ago I checked my booking and realised I’d booked B to A with a return from A to B. I don’t know how I managed it and am now awake worrying that I’m going to have to post a second full fare to be able to go. I know it’s my fault entirely but it still seems unfair to me that that might happen when we’re obviously not going to be on two ferries simultaneously! I’m really just posting here to share it and ease my mind (don’t want to ruin DH’s sleep too) but also if any of you are related to anyone kindly at Stena Line HQ...!

Are you saying the return journey is booked for the same time as the outbound journey? Can the system even do that?

Melitza · 31/05/2021 03:53

If you booked online then you can amend your booking.
Hopefully it won't cost extra but unless you look you won't know.
Or you could ring.

ProbablyLate · 31/05/2021 03:53

No, just that my currently it’s booked B to A then A to B the next day but if it’s non refundable and I have to pay a whole other fare I’d effectively be paying to go in both directions simultaneously

I’ve had a look but it’s not obvious that I can do it online. I’m going to ring first thing tomorrow but in the meantime am awake worrying about it!

Don't worry.
It probably happens a lot.
Stena will understand.
Ring in the morning and explain.

Ringsender2 · 31/05/2021 04:04

I did something like this (i.e. booked in the wrong direction) but didn't realise til we got to the strangely quiet ferry terminal. The woman on the desk there was incredibly nice and said it happens a lot. She swapped the bookings to the correct way no problem, no cost. Hopefully this will be the case for you too. I'm not sure what happenson fully booked sailings - fingers crossed yours isn't. Good luck

Feather12 · 31/05/2021 04:05

But the system does not know you are booking simultaneous journeys for yourself. So it is not unfair, yes it is annoying though. I have booked wrong flights, trains, car hire incorrectly many times so I know how annoying it is. At least you realised now though.

Thanks @Melitza, I’ll give them a ring in the morning and hopefully it’ll all be okay like @Ringsender2 ‘s experience 🤞🏼.

It’s a fair point @Feather12, I’m mainly just feeling like having to pay double for the ferry would overshadow what should have been a nice trip for the first time in ages before it had even started Sad

Ring them in the morning. I did this a couple of years ago and rang them in tears. I noticed four hours before the ferry when I got a text updating me on a late running ferry from B to A.

The woman I spoke with said it happens all the time and couldn’t have been more helpful.

My mother in law did this with the same ferry company a few years ago. They sorted it out for her very easily. She was a foot passenger though so not like they had to fit an extra car.onto a busy crossing.

ProbablyLate · 31/05/2021 09:04

Thanks for your encouragement everyone! I rang them up this morning and they sorted it out for me no bother for £5 which I was over the moon with after a night thinking it would be £205 !

Great news. Depths of despair to joy. Have a good trip.
