C25K for 7 year old?

My 7 year old loves sport but struggles with coordination so isn't very successful at team sports, he loves running so I was thinking about starting Couch to 5k with him?

Is this okay? I think he'd love it but will running 5k screw up his knees for life (or something).

I only thought of it as I'd like to do it so thought we could do it together..?

It will be fine, couch to 5k builds you up very slowly I would say your problem might be reigning him in to actually follow the programme as like I say it is a very slow build up. Lots of 7 year olds and younger run park run every week.

I think it would be fine but does he actually need to do C25k? My 9 year old comes with me on a 5k run sometimes, she’s never had to train, she can just do it. & my 5 year old runs 2km at junior park run without any training for it. I think active healthy kids have a high level of fitness already basically.

I need to do it! I just thought he'd enjoy tagging along 😀

As long as you let a child go at a pace that is comfortable for them, you're highly unlikely to over train.

My two have done junior parkrun (2k) since 4 and have done 5k at about 5 and 6. It's accepted that they walk when they want and it's low pressure and about the participation. 5k is a sensible limit on distance for pre-teen children.

It’s fine, do make sure you getting him good fitting running shoes though to avoid potential issues. As others have said, Junior Parkrun is great if you have one near you.
