Ridiculously sunburnt, help!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 30/05/2021 15:35

Not in the uk so maybe sun is stronger in Denmark!

Sat near the water today which was sunny but breezy, had a jumper on and was comfortable. Like a fucking idiot I didn’t even consider the sunshine might be strong.

I am painfully sunburned all down one arm, my forehead and one side of my face and neck

I’ve had a cool shower and popped some cream on it but it hurts and I feel a bit weird and shaky.

What can I do!

You poor thing, the dizziness might be from the wind as well. Leave the blisters, put something cold on and rehydrate as much as possible.

(Anecdotally my dh go sunburnt on a ski trip to Italy, blisters all over his face, a fever. When finally ready to go out it was wearing a balaclava. We got stopped by the police asking him to identify himself and all he could do was reveal his blistered face, the police had the laugh of the day. We still tease him 30 years later Grin)

How are you feeling OP?
If you've blistered badly, seek medical attention.

I've only badly burnt once in my life and it was my shoulders, and I just spent quite a few hours sitting on the shower floor with it set to a lukewarm temperature. It was literally the only thing that helped. I couldn't sit with clothes on, or clothes off. I couldn't sleep or anything. But keep g the running water over it took the heat out and soothed it enough that I could cover it in burn cream the next day.

Uh, ds lives close by Nordhavn. Almost family then Grin.

AmandaHoldensLips · 30/05/2021 22:08

Natural yoghourt and cucumber. Make a big bowl of it and slather over affected areas. You can lie in a bath and do it. It takes all the heat out of the skin.

Fitforforty · 30/05/2021 22:16

Please don’t put anything oil based on eg cream it will make it worse. Have a cool shower, paracetamol and lots and lots of water are helpful. With blistered skin I think you need to seek medical advice.

@ChateauMargaux

Lavender... add some drops to a carrier oil or your moisturiser.. and also sniff it, will probably help your emotional reaction to the burns as well.

I was blown away a few months ago when using lavender on an overnight burn. I sniffed another essential oil which antidoted the effect the lavender was having, when I sniffed the lavender again, the pain reduced again. I had no idea that it had anything other than a topical effect.

Ive slathered myself in lavender too

Works like a charm for me as I’ve overdone it as well
Amazing stuff

Just checking in to tonight's sad crew, one arm, burnt to a crisp! 😞

Midwife1997 · 30/05/2021 22:31

I fell asleep in the sun back in 1998. I awoke to find half of my face bright red. That evening I was on a night shift on Labour Ward. Oh how my colleagues laughed when they saw me.

Oh you poor thing OP!
Before all the weeks of rain we have had here in the UK I saw a friend of mine in town and we sat on a bench for a while to chat. It was a lovely day with a nice breeze.
When I got home my nose, chest and arms were bright red and by night time they were very painful and tight.

I usually cover myself on factor 50 if there is any chance of sunburn and I felt really embarrassed and stupid. I was feeling very sorry for myself for the next few days.

You have all my sympathy and I hope you feel better really quickly FlowersFlowers

mygee · 30/05/2021 23:12

I burned my legs really badly last year- I fell asleep in the shade from the parasol but of course the sun moved and my legs were no longer shaded 🤦‍♀️ My poor legs aren't used to seeing the sun so it didn't take long for them to burn.

It was so painful it felt like my bones were aching, it hurt to stand up! I kept cold wet towels over my legs and applied lots of after sun and aloe vera gel. Keep topped up with painkillers- ibuprofen helped me more than paracetamol. Isotonic drinks and plenty of water too.

Hope you feel better soon.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 31/05/2021 00:50

Definitely not Sudocream! Keep cool, have a cool bath if you are burning up. Aloe Vera is good too, and keep hydrated, and get a fan.

LemonySippet · 31/05/2021 00:55

You can make dioralyte type stuff OP, make up a litre of boiled water and mix in 6 teaspoons of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt. Allow to cool and sip. It's basically the same thing. Hope you feel better in the morning but if you don't, get some of that down you.

Furries · 31/05/2021 04:16

Natural yoghurt is supposed to help.

Just don’t make the same mistake as I did when trying to help a family member when on holiday overseas. Didn’t look at the packaging properly, so said family member ended up with a back covered in yoghurt with chunks of fruit included - trying to clear that mess up was amusing 🤣

Furries · 31/05/2021 04:17

PS - hope you feel a bit better today.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 31/05/2021 06:17

Thanks all.

Didn’t get much sleep as annoyingly I sleep on my right side and it hurt to! My ear developed a large blister at the top which popped this morning Envy. My neck and behind my ear is v v tender (makes wearing a mask fun Grin) but I feel less shaky and nauseous, now just really hungovery

Glad youre feeling better. After I posted I checked in the mirror and despite applying factor 40 I was also rather pink. Im in Jylland.

AllOptionsAreOnTheTable · 31/05/2021 09:53

@ButterflyBitch

Use moisturiser, take ibruprofen and if you feel unwell call a medical professional. Don’t put food, shaving cream or anything oil based on your skin please.
Yes to this, especially as it's blistering.
Mandalay246 · 31/05/2021 10:27

It might sound strange but sliced tomato works for sunburn (on the skin, not eating it). I'm in NZ and we have another level of sunburn here!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 31/05/2021 12:05

StrictlyAFemaleFemale I’m determined to make it to Jylland this summer, it looks beautiful! I’ll remember to bring the sunscreen Grin

Jubilate · 31/05/2021 12:28

If I get sunburned I always feel really anxious. I'm not sure if it's the pain/fear or if I just feel really guilty. I'm not a sunbather at all, but have been caught out while gardening. I think I have very sensitive skin and I live by the sea, so I seem to frazzle really quickly. Yet my MIL lies out in the sun with no cream and I've never seen her burn!

I got very badly burned last year and struggled until I blasted the ibuprofen regularly and put on calamine lotion twice a day. It really took the pain away.

Howzaboutye · 31/05/2021 12:57

Have a bath! Tepid/ just your body temperature. Lie in for a while, as the water cools it will also take the heat out of your skin. Put the milk on a flannel and put on your face. Drink cold fizzy lemonade, full sugar.
These are heatstroke fixes, as you have literally got your body too hot.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 31/05/2021 15:17

Thank you, sadly no bath and flatmate s unimpressed at me having several cool showers!

Ibuprofen is definitely helping!

Get a towel and wet it with cold water, squeeze excess water out, put in fridge. Apply and leave for 30 mins on sunburn - my dad told me years ago, it works!
