Please be kind. Grin

An early morning motion, what happens when there are supporters.
I mean what becomes of the motion, can anybody else have a say and how long is it open for?
Thank you.

Hello
I wonder if you mean Early Day Motions? These are signed by MPs but not usually debated.
Here's some information about them: www.parliament.uk/about/how/business/edms/

Thank you, I'm trying to follow the Police Bill, and there are 23 supporters to a motion I'm so passionate about.
But I'm a bit clueless, never really been interested before, and not part of my education.
Thanks Thanks

Oh right, maybe not an Early Day motion then. It might be that you are thinking of an amendment (proposal for change) to the Bill which is supported by 23 MPs?
The Bill is at Committee stage at the moment, this means a smallish group of MPs are considering suggested amendments until 24 June. Then the amended Bill will come back to the House (all MPs) who will vote on it before it goes to the Lords and they vote on it too.
I hope this helps. Wish we were taught this stuff in school!! More info on the Bill is here: bills.parliament.uk/bills/2839/publications

Thank you very much.
Some reading and learning to do.

I think it was a motion on the 24th May its to scrap no 4, I believe.
There was a Primary and about 23 others.

Thank you so very much for the links. Thanks

Oh righto. So Early Day Motions don't lead to change on their own or get voted on. It's more of a way for MPs to set out their views. 23 MPs signing it (all Opposition ie no MPs from the ruling Party) is quite small- it clearly has limited support. (There are 650 MPs total...)
Where there would be change would be if an amendment related to encampments etc was considered by the Bill Committee and voted through. I've had a look at the looooong list of proposed amendments and can't see it there but I have to admit I have two small children climbing all over me and it is 78 pages long so I may have missed it.
It's worth a bit of context too. The Government has a big majority at the moment (ie. there are lots more Conservative MPs than other ones) so if the Government doesn't support a change - and they wouldn't support this change- then it's much harder for it to go through. Flowers

Thank you so much for your help and the links.
I have some surprise free time today, so am reading through.
I know there's probably nothing I can do, but have to make sure, and at least I will have tried and of course learned, so I can explain to others.

Thanks again Thanks
