Where have I put my jacket? This is a puzzle

I've lost a very expensive jacket and I cannot figure out how. I work from home so not exactly out and about right now

I know for sure I had it on Sunday as I'd been away and I unpacked and hung it up. This is a definite.

I may have taken it out again but that I can't remember.

I have a clear house - no clutter. Same for the car.

It's not in my wardrobe
It's not in the study where I hang jackets up
It's not in my car

I did go to lunch yesterday but I am almost certain I didn't wear it - but I've checked with the restaurant anyway just in case. Not handed in.

So.... in a pretty clear house where you're a creature of habit and don't just fling a jacket anywhere - where would it be? Which Saint do I have to ask for assistance?

Did whoever you went to lunch with perhaps take it home with them by accident and they are now wondering where this surprise jacket in their house has come from?!

Was it hung on a hook or a hanger? Could a heavier coat or jacket be on top of it?

On the back of a door?
In the boot of the car?
Fallen down the side of the bed or sofa or a chair?
In the wash basket?

Who did you go to lunch with? Can they remember whether you wore it there and had it on when you left?

Well it is a camouflage jacket to add insult to injury!

I had lunch alone - sounds odd but was working and a paid lunch. However I remember I was wearing a sweatshirt and I'm almost certain i didn't wear my jacket going in. It would be unusual for me to do that - I never wear a jacket with a sweatshirt

I'll check the study for the third time in case it's under another coat

Not in the wash basket - it's clean. Plus they're empty

Not down a bed or sofa - wouldn't be possible

Is there anybody else in your household who may have borrowed it and forgotten/ruined/misplaced it? I would carry out a full interrogation

This happened to my MIL many years ago. She scrimped and saved for months for a coat which then disappeared, only to later find out FIL had sold it!

Are you wearing it right now? Usually when I have lost my glasses they are actually on my face
Are other things hang up on your coat rack? Take everything off there in case it's caught inside something.
Could you have folded it up into a shopping bag to save carrying it?

I lost a new medication prescription last week. That was a tad embarrassing, asking for a repeat! And not the paper script, the actual medication!

I'm an idiot.

I have been missing a pair of black jeans for 18 months.

Also have a tidy house and looked for them every few months.....
Last weekend suddenly there they are hanging up in a spare wardrobe. Which I had looked in every time I was searching.
