I want to paint my bedroom but need help deciding on a shade. I don't want boring cream.

We have a feature wall that's cream and gold and the curtains and blinds are a dark chocolate colour.

I only like 'light' colours so what would you go for? The furniture is completely different to the pic btw - it's all reclaimed dark wood now

Light blue by farrow and ball is beautiful

Teessider · 28/05/2021 21:23

Gosh, would it go with the wall that's antique gold and cream? That would be a bold choice for me!

I painted my bedroom wall with gold paint and it looks good

If you’ve already put up the wallpaper you want then you should pick a shade from the wallpaper. You can get it colour matched by taking in a sample.

Or just wallpaper the other walls too

Teessider · 28/05/2021 21:29

The wallpapered wall has to stay - my husband isn't on board yet to paint the remaining walls! Baby steps

No, I do like the gold and cream of the feature wall so anything that goes with that

Gold or cream then.. if you introduce another colour, particularly with you having brown curtains, then you’ll risk it looking a bit of a muddle

What about a fresh green like Dulux Wellbeing or an 'apple green' shade?

Could you change the curtains and blinds (and bed throw)? If they were a cream colour to match the wall paper, then you would have more options with the other walls.

Teessider · 28/05/2021 22:28

@SkankingMopoke the bed throw is now an antique gold velvet throw and was £££ so can't change really. Curtains and blinds are different to those in the pic but still a deep brown with gold fleck.

So I suppose i need something to tie together dark ish wood furniture, brown curtains etc and the gold throw and feature wall

Ugh it's bloody cream isn't it

Do you have a pic of the style you like? It's deffo not my taste but I don't think there's anything advantageous about us hut shooting in the dark, everyone's different

Shodan · 28/05/2021 22:40

I'd go for a green as well, but maybe a 'warmer' green, like Dulux Willow Creek (number 6, if you like a paler shade)

MustardRose · 28/05/2021 22:51

Cappuccino-ish?

Haha yeah, I think so! I think 3 colours are fine, but another would be too many with the style of the room. You already have cream, gold, and dark brown, so to add another you've got to lose one IMO.

HasaDigaEebowai · 29/05/2021 09:17

Personally I’d take the brown curtains out. Then you have a little more flexibility to add another colour (although I’d still say cream will look best - colour matched to the base colour in your wallpaper).

If it was my room I’d take out the curtains (due to colour and length - they will look so much better long and probably a gold colour) and I’d have three walls wallpapered and one wall in “cream” (but if you tell yourself it’s not cream but “white chocolate” or “gentle dove” you’ll feel better about it Grin
