Don't Google too much you will drive yourself crazy! Make a GP appointment or ask your health visitor. If you are really concerned go to a walk in centre in the morning.

Mongolian blue spots are not always blue, birthmarks often develop in the first few weeks of life. www.gosh.nhs.uk/conditions-and-treatments/general-medical-conditions/birthmarks/

CatsPyjama · 28/05/2021 21:00

How big is it?

If you’re new you can’t post a pic straight away.

Evalamaj · 28/05/2021 21:01

Mongolian blue spots can be all shapes and sizes. Is your baby Black or mixed race?

bruffin · 28/05/2021 21:14

Mongolian blue spots are flat. My ds's one looked lie a bruise on the base of his spine.
Ds, is not black or mixed race, but my DF was mediterranean.

VettiyaIruken · 28/05/2021 22:02

When you say black, do you mean actual black or just dark?
My youngest had so many Mongolian blue spots that my nanny actually raised it with me as she thought they were bruises.

Or it could be a different type of birth mark. You should see your GP, nurse of health visitor and ask them.

birdling · 29/05/2021 06:54

Birth marks are often not present at birth. (Contrary to what the nane would suggest) All of my children have some and they developed over the first few weeks.
It's most likely to be a birth mark of some sort, but check with your health visitor if you are concerned.

DS2 developed a blue/grey birth mark on his shin when a few a weeks old. I was really worried it was a bruise. It lasted about 10 years and I am not sure it is visible any more.

Youvegotafriendinme · 29/05/2021 07:05

My DS wasn’t born with his birth mark, it developed a few weeks later and got darker over a couple of weeks.
