But I just can’t find the answer to it!!! When I am buying my daughter’s clothes and age 6 says 116cm.....is that from 116cm or up to 116cm?

I promise I have tried to find the answer online but it’s conflicting....

A) you are a woman, not a women.

B) it’s up to 116cm.

Contactlesslenses · 28/05/2021 18:34

Doesn’t it mean that the clothes are designed fit a 116 cm tall child exactly? So if your child is taller than that the clothes might be too small and if they are smaller, then the clothes will be a bit baggy..

MrsAudreyAlfredRobertsOBEHmm · 28/05/2021 18:35

Agree with @Contactlesslenses, they are designed to fit that size

That's what I always thought.

Really depends on if they have a long body legs etc.
BrutusMcDogface · 28/05/2021 18:37

Which is the same as “up to”, isn’t it?! 🤣

OneToThree · 28/05/2021 18:53

It fits that exact height (give or take a bit)

babycorn1 · 28/05/2021 18:58

I have to confess that I am similarly confused, for example, when something is age 3, does that mean up to 3? Or when they are 3? Confused

Oceanblue042 · 28/05/2021 19:23

If you thought that was conflicting, check this one out. Apparently the weight of the baby it fits depends on which country you're in?! Grin

I have always thought up to. So 3-6 months fits an average six month old. I too, am an intelligent women. Grin

tentosix · 28/05/2021 19:45

It's an average height for a 6 yo, so it will fit most average 6 yo's. It's not up to or from, it's averaging around that height. So you pick the nearest height to your child. If you child is 115 or 117 and 5 years old, then the 116 would be the correct size.

tentosix · 28/05/2021 19:46

and if it's nearer the next size up, then that the size you choose. 'Up to' explanations don't make sense.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/05/2021 20:14

I know what you mean... I think I'm pretty intelligent and not stupid or bonkers or anythink (sic) like that but I want to know where the stars go during the day.
Chelsea says they gone down to Australia, but then she voted for that dog on BGT so I'm not sure I can believe her.
What does you lot think?

BrutusMcDogface · 28/05/2021 20:17

🤣🤣🤣

BertieBotts · 28/05/2021 20:21

No, it's up to. These are standard European sizes, and that is how they work.

You can tell because some UK brands have "5-6 years, 110-116cm" and some have "5-6 years, 116cm"

They do not deviate from this system.

Also, my child is 92cm but fits mainly into size 98 (age 2-3) clothes and a few 104. The 92 clothes are all too small.

It's worse for American children's clothes as they will have sizes like "6 months" which actually is equivalent to "3-6 months" but it messes with your head - when you have a 3 month old baby you don't want to put them into 6 month sized clothes!

But it is a clothing industry worldwide standard. If there is one number, it refers to the top end of a range. Numbers with a slash like 110/116 are dual sizes so should fit age 4-5 and age 5-6. If it's a dash then it's a range.

BertieBotts · 28/05/2021 20:23

That's interesting, Ocean! Maybe Australia/NZ convention is to have the single number be the start of the range, not the end of it? It would make sense as they are upside down there :o

greatauntfanny · 28/05/2021 20:36

I always thought it meant 'around'. So if your child was 116cm, give Orr take a few, it would fit 🤔

greatauntfanny · 28/05/2021 20:36

or

ElizabethSiddall · 28/05/2021 20:37

Up to.
Whatever size the kids were, that was always the size they didn’t have.

cheesecrackerz · 28/05/2021 20:40

Hardly intelligent though are you, spelling 'woman' as 'women'...

Runway · 28/05/2021 23:16

Thanks very much for the helpful answers

Everyone who is incredibly upset that I typo’d woman/ women need to relax. I mean I have 2 degrees and a masters in maths so, yes, I probably am intelligent. And - shock - I can also make a typo....people on here are weird.
