Laying in bed, nose bunged up, can't breathe, getting chapped lips from breathing through my mouth, my face is aching it's so sore. I'm pregnant so can't take drugs except paracetamol.
Got the cold of my little boy who probably got it at nursery. Me, son and DH all feeling like shit.

I wish there was a vaccine for the cold virus!!

Sadly, OP, the “common cold”isn’t one virus but over 150 different ones! I doubt you’d want 150 vaccine shots. It’s snotty and miserable, true, but at least you know you’ll be feeling better in three days. Hugely preferable to Covid, anyway!

Horehound · 28/05/2021 22:19

Oh yeh I know! I just wish there was one lol
Feel terrible and I'm on day four seems to be getting worse!!

Yes! Haven't had one in ages and now I've got one with a vengeance.
Thank you :)
I hate not breathing through my nose. My mouth is all dry and I don't want to sleep like that. I did a nose flush but it was short lived.

Feel ya! Woke up with a sore throat on Saturday morning, by Sunday afternoon my nose was streaming... luckily Tuesday morning it had disappeared, nothing for 2 days and now I have laryngitis. One good thing about the lockdown I suppose was not picking up colds ☹️

AngeloMysterioso · 28/05/2021 22:32

Ah you have my sympathy. DH, DS and I have been swapping colds non-stop for the last 6 weeks or so now, my throat is raw from coughing and sneezing and honestly I’m surprised I have any nose left I’ve had to blow it that much.

Horehound · 28/05/2021 22:35

Lol yy to the raw nose. I stupidly put some Vicks on the end of my nose and it sting like hell!

@Timeisavirtue aw sorry you have laryngitis :(

Yanbu I work in a nursery, you would think I’d be immune by now but no such luck. I catch a cold from the kids approx every 4 weeks. It’s hideous and makes me feel really run down.
I know working parents need to send their kids to childcare with a cold but my heart bloody sinks when they come in coughing and sneezing.
The lockdown and pandemic made no difference to us as we can’t wear PPE looking after toddlers.
Hope you get better soon OP, you have my sympathy.

Horehound · 28/05/2021 22:40

Oh god @missyb1 that sounds like hell. Poor you.
I am guilty of sending my son in with a cold but the nursery actually tell us to and the girls are like "yeh that's what nursery is all about"!

You deserve a pay rise!

Same my 3 year old has given me a stinking cold. He's running about getting on with it with a few extra grumpy bits. I on the other hand feel rubbish and want to go to bed!

Horehound · 28/05/2021 22:53

Uft hope you feel better soon. Yes, my son is fine after calpol and being distracted. I am just a big sorry, exhausted mess!

And in laws coming tomorrow. Haven't seen since August but the house is a tip and I'm just not well enough to entertain

OP posts:
Cattitudes · 28/05/2021 22:58

Unless you have had a negative test result this sounds like a perfect reason not to have the in laws over. Can't be too careful and some people have a stuffy nose with covid 😉.

Horehound · 28/05/2021 23:01

Lol @Cattitudes honestly I would like that but my husband is looking forward to seeing them. We did do a lateral flow test the days ago which was negative and I am Gona do one tomorrow (and secretly hope it's positive lol) ...I'm not a massive fan but can put up with them. If I feel crap I'll be going to bed though! And they'll be told they need to help themselves to food and wash up cause we are both Ill, tired and stretched ourselves.

This is why wearing a mask for the foreseeable future appeals to me. Less chance of catching colds/flu/viruses.
Plus, I don’t have to bother about make up or plucking my chin hair before I go out Grin

Horehound · 28/05/2021 23:15

Oh yes I love going to shops not having to wear make up
The mask thing wouldn't have helped though since DS likes to kiss me and sneeze all over me lol there was no hope!

BashfulClam · 29/05/2021 01:52

The good news is each time you catch a cold you are then immune to that one. Hence you get less cold as you get older. Kids get more colds as they haven’t become immune to many yet. Little germ factories.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 29/05/2021 04:33

Get well soon OP. I'm a teacher in an infant school. My class wash their hands literally 8 times a day but since Easter I've had tonsillitis, laryngitis, a nasty chest infection requiring steroids and another cold. In 6 weeks! Pkus hayfever. It's just relentless

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 29/05/2021 04:33

Plus

Parkandride · 29/05/2021 05:29

Eurgh lockdown meant I avoided colds while pregnant but just had my first while breastfeeding so still no good drugs on offer, steamy shower and hot honey and lemon helped a bit alongside paracetamol. Hope it passes soon

Jasmine245 · 29/05/2021 05:53

There seems to be a lot of colds going around at the moment. My 18 month old has been blocked up for 2 weeks and as a result is waking at 4am everyday.

Babdoc · 29/05/2021 08:36

Colds are snottier at the moment up here in Scotland, as the oil seed rape is in full flower, so all that irritation, from the pollen clouds blowing over the village, adds to the general misery of symptoms!
Hope you are soon feeling better, OP.
