Marcus Rashford for PM?

I don't mean now, obviously, but for the future.

Someone who could make Labour (presumably) actually electable if he embarked on some sort of training for it now?

Do political parties plan succession in this way or is it all down to the individuals?

Maybe one day but I think he could do more good by being Apolitical

LOL, no! It's all about who has the loudest voice, sharpest elbows and is in the right place at the right time.

Wouldn't a party elder spot a younger person with potential to mentor and develop?

Well it would be a yes from me.

You'd think it would go that way but rarely does. Power handed down is more to do with who's mates with who and who knows where the bodies are buried

Why do you think he’d want to be PM?

Laiste · 28/05/2021 14:00

Yeah, it's still the old boy network. Dressed up with a bit of lip service paid to ''minorities'' and women.

It's all about who you know and who's back you can scratch, not what good you can do. Sadly.

Only because I saw a bit of his "meeting" with Obama, it seemed a suggested path for him.

He has more sway at the moment by not aligning himself with a particular party and just focusing on his charitable efforts. Boris Johnson taking him on and then backing down is always enjoyable.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 28/05/2021 14:06

Not sure about PM even when older. However he has some good ideas, intentions and a lovely way of explaining them to people. So a position in government or another organisation where they are best used.

Sebastian Coe a gold medal Olympian never got far in a political career, Ming Campbell did become Lib Dem leader though.

I think Marcus Rashford could have far more influence outside Parliament, even if he does not follow a managerial or coaching career once he hangs up his boots.

OrangePowder · 28/05/2021 14:28

Rashford is far more charismatic and has achieved more outside of sport at 23 than than Coe
