If money was no object where would you go?

I'm in a very lucky position of owning two properties and having a kid going to board next year. I also have a lump sum coming in around that time (over 250k) and am feeling that I can finally "relax" and spend some time on me. I'm tempted to spend some time exploring the world but as a 40+ year old lady I feel out of touch with what kind of travelling I should be looking at. Obviously I don't want to drain all of it, but having some ideas and dreams would go a long way! Or is travelling a massive no-no, even next year? What else would you do with the money to make you feel exciting again?

I’d go to the Bora Bora and the Seychelles.

Rainbowqueeen · 28/05/2021 11:16

Maldives and Mongolia
Also South America especially patagonia

midsomermurderess · 28/05/2021 11:17

Japan.

MoesBar · 28/05/2021 11:20

Another vote for Japan.

Sweden.
Canada.

Passionfruitpizza · 28/05/2021 11:20

I'd go and spend a couple of months in Costa Rica and a couple down by Lake Geneva.

stormelf · 28/05/2021 11:29

I'd Tavel all over Europe. We started doing bits here and there before kids bit I'd love just to properly explore each country and not have to worry about backpacking and budget accommodation

Palavah · 28/05/2021 11:35

Israel (if security allowed)
Nepal
Japan
Some gorgeous remote tropical islands in Philippines / Indonesia etc
South America including Galapagos

bibliomania · 28/05/2021 11:37

Also Japan. Plus all round Europe - I want to see how far north I can go in Norway.

bibliomania · 28/05/2021 11:37

Can I come?

Caramel81 · 28/05/2021 11:38

Round the world cruise - you can do really luxury ones for around 50k over 3 months which will take you from the U.K. across Europe, asia, Oz, South America, South Africa etc with loads of stops to explore each country every few days

TheHoneyFactory · 28/05/2021 11:40

i would be doing luxury train travel trips (well not all super luxe) but id be riding bullet trains in japan, the alps in glass top carriages, all over Europe (did it backpacker style many years ago - would love to revisit) Australian outback, asia in first class aircon, love to the praires and rockies of north America etc etc etc

this is my aim once the mortgage is paid - to start saving for this

MrsAudreyAlfredRobertsOBEHmm · 28/05/2021 11:41

I'd go on a riding holiday through the rockies.
Go to the remotest Scottish island
Have a trip to Connemara (spelling?)
Go to the deep south and New England in the fall
And have a trip to puru

beguilingeyes · 28/05/2021 11:43

Go to Vietnam..it's incredible. South-east Asia generally.

I always had a vague dream of touring the US in a Winnebago type thing, but I'm not sure about much of the States now...I'd be too worried about asking for directions and getting shot...

futuremoneyinbank · 28/05/2021 14:30

I'm a bit nervous about cruises with covid and shared air supplies - I suppose the same is true about trains? It would be wonderful to do both...

Japan is on my radar already and I feel you need to be there for some time to really see as much as possible - the cherry blossom season would be amazing!

Seychelles and stay in a place with a private pool on stilts over the sea. That's my dream.

I spent three weeks travelling in Japan, it felt a decent amount of time to see plenty. I would also spend another month in Patagonia if I could.

Also USA national parks, Rockies etc.

And I'd love to dive a coral reef. Not sure where though.

OrangePowder · 28/05/2021 14:45

I'd work my way through the Explore brochure and do all their big trips.

Strokethefurrywall · 28/05/2021 15:01

Costa Rica for a surf and yoga retreat.
South African safari and cage diving with great whites
Australian camper van adventure
Argentina for steak, wine and polo
New Zealand for the adrenaline sports
Norway for the northern lights

So much I can’t wait to do!

starfish4 · 28/05/2021 15:26

Somewhere like Seychelles, Maldives, Mauritius. Canadian Rockies. Italian lakes are nice. If you're moving around, some of the European cities are well worth spending a few days in - Budapest, Amsterdam, Berlin - other people will give you other ideas no doubt.

Kay94 · 28/05/2021 15:42

Definitely spent some time traveling in Sri Lanka (the best place to travel for sure), bali and Seychelles. I've visited all 3 and they are all amazing.

The train through Rajasthan has more than enough ventilation!

I think I could agree with all of the suggestions - and 40+ is absolutely no age at all. For my 40th (and I am a lot older than that now, have a disability and still travel - or will as soon as I can) I did the Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu (and the rest of Peru).

But if the world doesn't get a grip soon, I am also wondering about hanging up a shingle that says "willing to be abducted by aliens".... You did say "if money was no object"!

Memedru · 28/05/2021 16:01

Straight back to Botswana!

I'd also go back to Victoria falls, but would do it from the Zambia not Zimbabwe because frankly they hate the British and I've never felt so unsafe in a country before!

IdblowJonSnow · 28/05/2021 16:04

If you're interested in Japan then I'd go via south east Asia. Don't miss Cambodia.

I wouldnt recommend India as a lone female traveller, it's really not safe. That is based on my personal experience.

How long do you want to go for and what do you enjoy doing?

LadyofMisrule · 28/05/2021 16:39

Sweden and Norway.
New Zealand

Cowbells · 28/05/2021 16:43

Presuming all of these were safe at the time of travel:

Costa Rica
Sri Lanka and India
The Holy Land - Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt
China
Indonesia

I really highly recommend Japan. I'd go back there happily.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/05/2021 16:44

I'd fly into Singapore, spend a week mooching about and stuffing my face whilst deciding on an itinerary in SE Asia.
