Carpark parking changes. 50% increase

I was driving through my nearest large town and decided I would swing in for a hour to check if some vouchers was still valid after endless shop closures.

When I parked up the carpark has gone from hourly starting at £1.60 to minimum of three hours at £3.

I'm sure I could go to another car park and presumably it might be a cheaper rate. But with so many shops shut recently I dont see the logic in this.

I was going to mooch around a few shops but I didnt need three hours so drove a mile from high street to check my vouchers on the free trading estate.

I dont really like the other car parks as the top is on a killer hill. One is central and the spaces are tiny and the other is at the top of the hill. The shopping centre is at the bottom.

So unless I really need to go to a few shops I do think it would put me off going into town. Poor high street. Going there feels more like hard work as time goes on.

Where I live is free parking for another few months then charges are being introduced. I often pop into town for a coffee because it's free parking. I'm not paying for a coffee and £2 to park! And then I'm not going to wander into Boots or New Look either, and impulsively part with my cash. I do think it will cripple the high street.

That's the thing, I only really needed one shop.but I was thinking I could have a browse at a few shops near it. But faced with paying £3 just for a quick look around didnt appeal. It will definitely make think twice about how much I need to buy anything in the future. Good for my pocket and the environment but bad for the high street. I often used to in for one thing then buy some more on a whim in other shops.

I've taken to parking in the supermarket car park which has 1.5 hours parking if you purchase something. I never need more than that.
The car park is £2.50 per hour, up to £6 all day and I begrudge paying that.
