Period swimwear

Just a quick question - is there anywhere I can buy these in most town centres. On holiday/Uk in 2 days and dd (who loves to swim) began a period this evening...

@Wolfiefan

I had never heard of this. If we were to have youngest having a period when we (eventually maybe) get to go in holiday are any of them really good?? She’s far too young for mooncup or tampon.
Old enough to menstruate, old enough to use tampons! Lots of girls use them from their first period.

eBay? And pay extra for quick delivery?

I'd personally be comfortable using my period pants for swimwear in a time of need i couldn't use tampons

Alakazam8 · 26/05/2021 23:03

Will try eBay and next, thanks. She won’t be able to use anything like tampons- if she could wouldn’t need to be asking this and would have an easy solution.
Unfortunately not going to airport, just an hours drive....

I have never heard of these before. What happens when it is time to change out of a wet costume? It won't be like a scene from Carrie will it?

My thought too.

Any reason why she “won’t” be able to use tampons, o/p? If she doesn’t want to then fine, but that’s different from not being able to.

I’m not sure about period swimwear, surely unless it’s watertight, which it obviously isn’t, then there must be some leakage?

Not necessarily Hmm

Some girls start very early and would be uncomfortable with the idea of a tampon. Some women can't wear tampons either for one reason or another.

Alakazam8 · 26/05/2021 23:27

Ok I understand the comments about tampons. There are reasons why she can’t though so why I was looking for an alternative. Next and eBay haven’t come up with anything. I’ll be ringing modibodi in the morning.,

@welshweasel she was 10 when she started her periods. And wouldn’t have wanted to use tampons or a mooncup.

Alakazam8 · 27/05/2021 16:06

@Wolfiefan similar age here with added issues that complicate further.
I contacted modibodi this morning and they weren’t able to expedite delivery even if I paid. However they did post it this morning, before 9 so it could arrive tomorrow, although they thought not. Keeping fingers crossed that it somehow does! It’s in royal mails hands now!

My mum was a tamponophobic, the things were banned in my house growing up. I was gutted that she made me wear a pad on my bikini bottoms and put shorts on top for the pool. No leakage at all though, so it worked fine.
I have a mooncup now.

I'd test these in a bath or something before you use them. I went swimming with a friend who wore them on day 4 of her period and it was evident she was bleeding, to put it sensitively. She complained and was told that they worked better in the sea than the pool - more water, I guess, and fewer chemicals.

I'd also change out of them at home, rather than in the changing room. Towel round the waist and then back to wherever you are staying, so she can wash off in some privacy.

I hope she can make it work somehow.

Wolfiefan · 27/05/2021 20:18

Good luck OP. Hope they arrive quickly.

loobylou44 · 27/05/2021 20:24

@Alakazam8 whereabouts are you? I have a pair of unworn modibodi period bikini bottoms in size 8. If you're anywhere near me (North East) then you can have them for free.

Alakazam8 · 27/05/2021 20:48

@loobylou44 thanks so much- that would have saved the day but we are not near enough.
@TakeYourFinalPosition thanks for the tips in using them if they do arrive in time
