If you asked for a salary of £75k

If you asked for a salary of £75k and you were told that it “won’t be exactly what was proposed but it wouldn’t be a million miles away”, how much would you expect to be offered?

Depends on your experience, what colleagues of same experience and qualifications are on - but those words I'd expect £70+

MindBodyChocolate · 26/05/2021 18:54

Should start with a 7. If it’s less than £70k you’re approaching 10% or more away from £75k which I don’t think equates to ‘not a million miles’ away.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 26/05/2021 19:09

Ok happy to dream about a salary of 75k...70k would be good or 68k with benefits like working from home days, negotiating hours, or something.

DragonMamma · 26/05/2021 19:14

£70k minimum would class as ‘not a million miles away’ in my mind

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/05/2021 19:16

No lower than 70k.

pitterpatterrain · 26/05/2021 19:25

Yup no lower than £70, with an explanation of when salary raises happen and when I would hit £75 (no “performance based” waffle)

Georgyporky · 26/05/2021 19:28

At least 70, & a polite question when 75 will be achieved..

Sniffingtheair · 26/05/2021 19:32

I’d think around the £70k mark.

thepinkstuff · 26/05/2021 19:34

Wow, what job do you do?

Depends. If you are currently on £65k I’d expect £71k+. If you are on £20k then anything over £55k would be close.

HotChoc10 · 26/05/2021 19:41

I feel like a company that can afford 70k for the right person can afford 75k - seems a bit petty at that level.

My DH applied for a job advertised at 35k, asked for 42 I think and settled on 38.

TokyoSushi · 26/05/2021 19:44

£70K

Hellocatshome · 26/05/2021 19:47

Anything from £65k upwards

Jobsharenightmare · 26/05/2021 19:51

£65k plus I think

dudsville · 26/05/2021 19:53

I would respond by asking for clarification. You can't accept something that's vague.

ZenNudist · 26/05/2021 20:01

73k

TakeYourFinalPosition · 26/05/2021 20:02

£65k upwards... but I’d try and negotiate upwards to around £70k.

spotcheck · 26/05/2021 20:04

For heaven's sake- is there a reason for asking?

someonesomewhere1 · 26/05/2021 20:11

£70k

Vetyveriohohoh · 26/05/2021 20:14

70 plus, or some kind of package of bonus or something to get you to low 70s

DelilahDingleberry · 26/05/2021 20:19

@spotcheck - impatiently waiting for a formal offer!

NeedsImprovement01 · 26/05/2021 20:21

65K and a mediocre benefits package which they claim is excellent and bumps the value up.

CassandraTrotter · 26/05/2021 20:22

It depends also what you are on now. Like if you are on £50k asking for £75k or on £65k asking for £75k, would expect it to be at least 10% higher than what on now unless you were made redundant
This makes absolutely no sense at all.

Close to 10% below is absolutely too far away. But I’d assume their offer was the start of negotiations.

Nodal · 26/05/2021 20:24

They'll try and fob you off with package. Decide in advance which ones are good/relevant to you now (car allowance etc)
