Should I tell DS about beloved cat being ill?

Or wait?

DS is at university and has just finished his exams. He is devoted to our cats and one of them has become quite ill. We don't know what it is and she is being tested, but it's not looking good.

He can't come home yet, or do anything to help, and I have a feeling she might not be here when he gets home, but I think we need to tell him even though it will be a bit of a downer for his last weeks at uni,

Should I tell him now? WWYD?

I would.
he's done with exams, I think he should know.
I'd want to.
maybe he could see cat over zoom and talk to her? I'd find that comforting for me.

really sorry btw x

I would suggest mentioning to him you are taking the cat to the vet, say you aren't sure what's wrong but something is up and you will keep him in the loop. No point giving him bad news unless it it. We have dog issues and I did tell dd he was at the vet despite mid exams because she would be angry not to know, I didn't tell her they took biopsies, just that he was being referred (she knew he was limping)

when our dog had to be put down my parents said nothing until after the fact.
I was living in a different country so had no idea he was ill, nobody told me.
I was heartbroken and absolutely furious that they didn't give me the chance to do anything: I would've talked to Jojo on the phone to say goodbye, I would've prayed for him, I would've asked for a last photo.

Thank you all, that is sort of how we felt. We're going to call him this afternoon and say she is having more test tomorrow.

Letting him FaceTime with her is a good idea!

big hugs, it will be so tough to say & hear😢

sending you all much love

I would tell him.
We had to tell our tween dc that our 17 year old cat is going to the vets today to be put to sleep.
I think it would be too sad not to let dc have a chance to prepare for that even if remotely.

I agree he should be told.

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

Thank you, she's my baby girl, she's always been such an independent feisty little cat, it's sad to see her so weak.
