AZ vaccine - Sleeping like a baby

Sweetslumber · 26/05/2021 07:17

I’ve had both vaccines now and wondered if anyone else has had more ‘welcome’ side effects or if it’s just me.
Normally I sleep really badly and have done for years. I am Peri-M and wake up in the night for hours at a time usually in some heightened state of anxiety.
I’ve had both vaccines now and the only side effect I have had is the the night after the vaccine I have slept like a baby. Really deep, good sleep -no waking in the night, waking up in the morning refreshed.
I’m wondering if they’ve given me some tranquilliser by mistake!
Anyone else experienced this? 😳

Sorry no vaccine experience but as a lighthearted aside I have to say- have you ever had a baby??

Really deep, good sleep -no waking in the night, waking up in the morning refreshed.
Does not describe sleeping like a baby Grin

Your usual peri-menopause sleep sounds more like baby sleep!

Anyway, hope you feel ok following your vaccine Smile

Haha! Yes, I see what you mean! I have got DC!
It’s a well known expression - meaning to sleep peacefully, undisturbed and untroubled!
Maybe I should have said ‘slept like a log’
To avoid confusion!

Funnily enough, now you mention it, I had six hours at least of uninterrupted sleep last night. I had my second AZ jab yesterday.
I usually manage a few hours but six is pretty good for me. I wonder if it was the vaccine?

I think it is Purple.
The only 2 nights of great sleep I have had in years have been the night after vaccine 1 and last night -after having vaccine 2 yesterday.

Correlation does not causation make.

Sweetslumber · 26/05/2021 07:39

BTW How are you feeling purple?
I feel a little sleepy but in a good way.

I crashed out at 9pm after my second (I'm a night owl) but woke at 3.

DH who is even more of a night ow slept for 12 hours solid after his first.

Sweetslumber · 26/05/2021 07:42

@MolyHolyGuacamole

Correlation does not causation make.
😅 Do you think coincidence Moly? I thought so after vaccine 1 but the same happened after vaccine 2.

I can’t begin to tell you how badly I have slept night after night for years. So it’s definitely something!

The first one made me very sleepy. Just had the 2nd and no discernible effects this time (apart from sore arm).

sashagabadon · 26/05/2021 07:42

It always makes me laugh when people use sleeping like a baby to describe great sleep. I think what waking up every 20 minutes and screaming Grin
Might just have been my babies though Hmm

RaininSummer · 26/05/2021 07:44

I think this might be a thing. Had my 2nd jab on Monday and have just had two good night's sleep which, like the OP is rare these days.

I agree! I think the expression refers to the fact that when they do sleep, that’s it, they’re ‘out like a light’. Peaceful too!

I think so rain. I Can’t find any info about it though.

I had cold symptoms with my first jab but they only lasted 24 hours. I was feeling a little sleepy yesterday but I put that down to me walking home from the covid centre instead of getting the bus!

My arm is a bit sore but other than that I feel fine.

JocastaNu · 26/05/2021 08:18

I had the exact opposite after my first. Was awake all night long and completely unable to switch off. It was like I'd drank 10 espressos.

Sweetslumber · 26/05/2021 14:00

Well I’ve just finished a half day at work and have been fine. I do feel a bit drowsy now and might have a nap. I hope I sleep well again tonight. The vaccine definitely has had a bit of a ‘sleeping tablet’ effect on me!

@Sweetslumber I wish that was the case with me. Still getting 5 hours max Sad

EnjoyingTheSilence · 26/05/2021 14:06

I was sleepy after the 1st one but had my second yesterday, woke up at 1.30 this morning and have not slept since. I’m exhausted but cannot drop off ☹️

😞 Nothing worse than sleep deprivation over a long period of time.
I’ve found it really stressful.
It was so nice to get a massive 8 hrs sleep last night for the first time in what seems like eternity!

It’s amazing how it has affected people in different ways. I know some people who have had the worst migraines they have ever experienced.

OP posts:
lurkingfromhome · 26/05/2021 14:16

DH had no side effects other than a solid 13-hour sleep afterwards.

I, of course, had the most fitful, restless night's sleep imaginable.

pigeonpies · 26/05/2021 14:22

Omg yes! I didn't link it to the vaccine ( may not even be linked) but I've been wrecking my brain wondering why I'm sleeping all the way through the night all of a sudden!

Sweetslumber · 26/05/2021 18:58

Poor you lurking It’s such a weird situation.
Pigeon It would be great if it became the new norm.

Nataliafalka · 26/05/2021 19:00

I had one of my worst sleeps ever after my first dose of AZ

Lindy2 · 26/05/2021 19:04

I had my second yesterday. I was really tired this morning and would much rather have stayed asleep than have to get out of bed. I'm looking forward to bedtime tonight too as I'm still quite tired.

I had flu like side effects after my first jab but so far the second one has been absolutely fine - apart from being a bit tired.
