Any recommendations? For me and teenage dds so fun and not too expensive BUT not too lively for an ageing old lady (me)! Near university areas. Thank you!

Zaap Thai in Leeds is fun!

The Wharf in Castlefield, Manchester. Lovely food, fantastic staff, dogs allowed in the downstairs bar area, plus you can go for a walk along the canal looking at all the narrow boats to walk off the giant roast dinnersSmile

Thank you! They look great..
Anyone else?

Tam po po in Manchester. There's 2 in the city centre (or at least there were pre covid times) I loved that place. Miss it so much

My kids like Yard and Coop in both cities - not hugely close to the university but certainly fun and the food is nice.

Rudy's in Manchester. Best pizzas in the north west and bonkers value for money.

Lanique · 25/05/2021 20:59

This is really really helpful - thank you all.

The refuge in MCR next to the palace theatre, lots of small plates, Mediterranean influence. Delicious. Amazing venue aesthetically

Sukhothai in Leeds is good.

Was in Manchester last year and had a really good meal at the Rivals restaurant in the Royal Exchange.

Have heard good things about the Albert's Schloss but wasnt there long enough to get there.
Clouds23 bar for cocktail/mocktails and views (didnt eat there but had a lovely time watching storms coming in and over the city).

Near Manchester uni are Mowgli and Seoul Kimchi. Both fun and decent value for money. Archies is very instagrammable, not my thing but seems to be popular with teens. Then you could always go towards Withington, I'm out of the loop for that side of Manchester, but you can usually find something nice to eat.

Lanique · 25/05/2021 21:53

Great, thanks again all. I was a student in Manchester 25 years ago but not sure I'd be able to find my way around it now!

Little Tokyo in Leeds is my most favourite restaurant ever.

Good I miss it now I live elsewhere Sad

PennineSpring · 25/05/2021 21:57

Little Tokyo is amazing! My DD also loves Blue Sakura in Leeds. The unlimited lunch is a bargain for £18.

Agree with this, the pizzas at Rudy’s are amazing and so surprisingly cheap.

I was so glad when they opened a restaurant closer to home, in Birmingham, so that we could go more often as it’s become a family favourite. I believe that there’s also one in Leeds.

Thai a Roy Dee in Leeds, it’s bring your own booze(major bonus) and the food is unreal! Bringing your own drink brings the cost down so much.

Me and the lasses used to have girls night there and each bring a bottle. Used to get about 4 starters and 8 mains and sides to share and the bill would come to about 40-50 quid! Even if you don’t end up going there, whichever daughter is in Leeds. If she likes Thai, tell her and her friends to go there for a meal one night.

Darling daughter and I are taking a trip to Manchester in a few weeks and I’d like to go somewhere nice to eat. DD has her eye on 20 stories but the reviews are not good and although I don’t mind paying for a lovely meal I don’t want to pay and be extremely disappointed. Any suggestions please?
