DS has come home with hardly anything on his cv.
got me thinking other than personal statement, education to date, predicted grades, outside interests, referees what else is there to include!!!!

I left school with no idea what a CV looked like, how to complete application forms, how to interview etc. I eventually learned through trial and error. I think nowadays schools expect everyone to stay in education until age 20+, so they don't bother helping those who just want to work.

OP, I'd steer clear of filling up the page with drivel about skills and abilities etc. Just keep the info relevant and factual. Definitely don't lie! It's a habit your DS will struggle to shake off, and he might be grilled in an interview. You could maybe help him type up a cover letter with more info about what he's into, what his best subjects are at school etc.

Dd turned up with one she'd done in school this week too.
Theres nothing to put on it, she's 16. It has hobbies and GCSE subjects and some volunteer work she did winter 2019 when she was still 14 seeing that lockdown put a holt to everything.
She's looking for summer work now then will go back to school for A levels.

Cover letter describing his personality and his skills / interests, then a brief CV.

Make sure he has a professionalish email address (no hunxxx etc) and puts his contact number down.
