When do I admit defeat and throw in the towel...

...with this damn puzzle?! This has been going since Christmas Day. I have made no progress in months. Part of me wants to have a huge tantrum and throw it all in the box never to be opened again. The stubborn part of me wants to defeat it and have the pride and satisfaction of finishing it.

Before chucking it all in the box never to be opened again.

Why did I think a 1000 piece jigsaw would be suitable for me? Thank god I didn't get the Harry Potter jigsaw too!!

ShockShockShock

You do the edges first.
Then you sort the pieces by shape.
Then you do the puzzle.

LadyofMisrule · 25/05/2021 14:50

Now. Gather the pieces together and offer it on Freecycle. I spent days doing a puzzle after Christmas; the pieces were not well-cut, and I was never really convinced that they were correct when I finished it. Anyway, I didn’t enjoy it at all. It’s meant to be fun, not work!!

LadyofMisrule · 25/05/2021 14:52

…I should also say, I usually love puzzles. I love sorting the pieces as much as actually putting them together!

I have that one. I found it better to make up the characters first and instruments. The edges were difficult I. Part because of the shadows some look different colours so take them to window to put the right colours together

TheChild · 25/05/2021 15:00

I did try to start with the edges, but the bottom is pretty much all black and impossible for me!

I have small sandwich bags with labels for each of the villains and have tried to sort the pieces out and do it character by character.

I should probably stick to jigsaws on the Ipad!!

This is why you should sort by shape (4 blobs/3blobs/2 blobs adjacent/ 2 blobs opposite / 1 blob/ no blobs. Then you can look for the shape of the piece you’re looking for and then either try them or go by colour if you can.

I can send my dh round.. He ruined my brand new jigsaw on the first day.. Spilled a glass of lemonade on it.

I'd have had a tantrum by boxing day so I've got no advice.
I am very impressed by your commitment

TheBobJog · 25/05/2021 16:08

Sack it off. Sure, sense of satisfaction, victory and all that, but life is too short. Will you lie on your deathbed, surrounded by loved ones and whisper and remember whenI finished that Disney* 1000 piece jigsaw

Box it up and donate it to charity- spread the love Grin

*disclaimer, guessing Disney, can't make it out exactly

Timeforabiscuit · 25/05/2021 16:13

I have a lowry one that I binned after 9 months, just could not manage the faint pencilled sky line which makes up 1/2 the picture - even with the blob sorting it was just way too hard.

I have a similar sized doughnut one which is very satisfying.

FredAndChips · 25/05/2021 16:40

I have this one... It really was an actual bellend of a jigsaw to do cause half the pieces are black. I love a good hard jigsaw, but this one really took the biscuit. It looked beautiful when it was finished, but i doubt i'll ever want to do it again. Sorry, that didn't answer your question at all

gamerchick · 25/05/2021 16:42

I couldn't do a jigsaw like that. All the edges come out first and that gets done before any other pieces come out.

TheChild · 25/05/2021 19:32

I don't know why I thought it would be fairly straightforward. I might try some more tonight. Although I'm not quite sure my back could cope! I love doing the kids jigsaws...although most of them have about 24 pieces per puzzle...
