How much do you pay for nursery each month?

My little one ( almost 10 months) has his settling in week at nursery this week. He is due to start full time from next week.

Nursery costs will be 900 pounds a month.

Unfortunately, our nursery isn't enrolled on the tax free childcare programme, where you get a government discount.

It's very handy though as it's only four minutes walking distance from our home and I work from home full time.

It's also a good nursery and I'm very happy with his nursery teacher, who has been there for six years and takes good care of the young children.

We're based in Birmingham.

I'm wondering how much other people are paying for nursery each month? x

At that age I paid £1750 in London. That was 5 years ago

EnjoyingTheSunshine · 25/05/2021 12:56

@trying29

Wow 1750 pounds is a lot! Did that include food as well? I suppose it's normal for London though.

Our 900 pounds covers all the food as well.

I think it's 45 a day. It works out at about 400 a month for 2 days a week, but then we get the 20% government discount. It would have to be a seriously amazing nursery for me to choose one not registered on the government scheme!

Yes included food but no nappies. We used childcare vouchers to help pay. Was about £95 a day. Got cheaper when he turned 2

@Toottootdrivers

I'm not sure if ours is seriously amazing - I like it and the children all seem very relaxed in it and it has a good atmosphere.

We chose it because of the proximity to where we live and because we needed urgent childcare.

About 48 a day

avocadotofu · 25/05/2021 13:08

My son only attends for three days and we pay about £1100. We're in south London.

gingerbiscuit19 · 25/05/2021 13:08

Three full days £750 a month. I wouldn't use them if they weren't enrolled into that scheme if I'm honest.

KFleming · 25/05/2021 13:10

£56 a day including food, and we get the tax-free childcare scheme.
I would find it really annoying if we couldn’t use the tax free childcare. Do they offer the 30 free hours once your child gets to 3 years old?

postnatalworries · 25/05/2021 13:11

Three days a week is £1000 a month.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 25/05/2021 13:12

Just over £1000 a month. We've decided that because we can afford nursery feea we can afford prep school fees.

whatswithtodaytoday · 25/05/2021 13:12

£65 a day, I think it £70ish when he was a baby. Includes all food, nappies, wipes etc and uses Tapestry. Commuter town in East. It's part of a smallish countrywide chain.

JassyRadlett · 25/05/2021 13:13

We used to pay £1300 a month when youngest was under 3, for 4 days a week - just checked and full time is now £1800 a month. South London.

Why isn’t your nursery signed up to tax free childcare? It does make a big difference. Will it also affect whether you can access 30 hours after your baby turns 3?

The first two years of childcare are a huge financial drain.

whatswithtodaytoday · 25/05/2021 13:13

Meant to say - it includes the tax free childcare. That's really weird they don't, is it independent?

Santastealer · 25/05/2021 13:13

You will get such a wide spectrum of results it won’t be helpful.

I pay £57.50 a day for my 2 year old in a day nursery. Compared with £36 a day for the local playgroup.

lockdownwithwhoresdrawers · 25/05/2021 13:15

We pay £960 for 8-6 5 days a week inc of everything, this is for a 3.5yo who is in receipt of the 30 hours funding. I only work 3 days a week but DS has special needs so it acts as respite time for me and focussed learning and development time for him. It is a great nursery for him!

Awarsewolf · 25/05/2021 13:17

We pay 1300 for 50 hours a week, but use the government tax free scheme. Food included.

EnjoyingTheSunshine · 25/05/2021 13:18

@JassyRadlett

Yes, they do the 15 hour and 30 hour funded places. It's a private nursery, but i'm not sure if that's the reason they're not signed up to the taxfree childcare. If they were, we would "only" have to pay 734 pounds a month instead of 900 !

JassyRadlett · 25/05/2021 13:26

It’s very odd that they’re not signed up - most nurseries are private! I think I’d want to know why. Even our holiday camps are registered!

WWYD12345 · 25/05/2021 13:29

£58.80 a day here

MindyStClaire · 25/05/2021 13:31

£850 a month each before sibling discount (5%) and allowance for tax free childcare. I'm in NI.

Ozanj · 25/05/2021 13:35

£800 for 3 full time days a week. Includes food. Doesn’t include anything else.

Full time, if I could get it, would probably be approx 1200 - 1300 a month.

ZombeaArthur · 25/05/2021 13:36

My daughter goes to a school nursery 3 days a week. She gets 15 hours funded, so it costs us £18.25 a week. If she went for 5 days, she’d get 30 hours funded and it would only be £13.75!

We are very aware of just how lucky we are, it’s not only a great nursery, but childcare costs are so tremendously high for most families, it really feels like we won the lottery getting a place at this nursery .

Amrythings · 25/05/2021 13:36

In NI also, and it would be £980 a month before the tax-free. From February it'll be two of them with a 10% discount from nursery plus the tax-free so should come out around £1400 a month in real terms.

Only twenty months of that though. I won't know myself when DS goes to school!

Annaiswaycoolerthanelsa · 25/05/2021 13:37

First DC £800 FT.
Second DC £600 with a Childminder 9-3 M-F.
