How much do you pay for nursery each month?

My little one ( almost 10 months) has his settling in week at nursery this week. He is due to start full time from next week.

Nursery costs will be 900 pounds a month.

Unfortunately, our nursery isn't enrolled on the tax free childcare programme, where you get a government discount.

It's very handy though as it's only four minutes walking distance from our home and I work from home full time.

It's also a good nursery and I'm very happy with his nursery teacher, who has been there for six years and takes good care of the young children.

We're based in Birmingham.

I'm wondering how much other people are paying for nursery each month? x

1,400 a month in north London full time. Use the government Childcaretax account so works out to £1,263 a month out of pocket. When she turns 2 should expect to
Pay less £800 a month as 15hrs will be factored in.

Everything provided except nappies

Fees are 210 a week here, we pay 168 due to tax free childcare scheme.

We wouldn't use one which wasn't registered for it tbh, 40 a week is almost our weekly food shop.

QforCucumber · 25/05/2021 13:39

@dchange the 15 hours are only for those on certain benefits aren't they? We don't get any free hours until Ds turns 3 :(

4 days £1335 just outside London.

De88 · 25/05/2021 13:40

Nursery fees for babies here are about £50-55 per day, ours was £55 including all food, milk and nappies, 7am-6pm.

Currently using a childminder who is £37 per day 7.30-5.30 and we pay a retainer half fees for school holidays where we don't need care. Includes all food apart from dinner (we take a little packed lunch type thing) and any playgroups (whenever they might get going again).

@JassyRadlett

It's very odd indeed. When I mentioned the tax free childcare scheme, neither the nursery manager nor his nursery teacher seemed to know what I was talking about. I don't think they are familiar with it.

£92.50 a day in SW London. Not the most expensive by a long shot either.

@QforCucumber meant when she turns 3. I don't even qualify until she is 3 so not sure why I referenced 2. I clearly can't wait!!!

PineappleWilson · 25/05/2021 13:43

We pay upwards of £660 a month, for 3 full days including meals. You can ask the nursery to start accepting childcare vouchers. Our oldest's school breakfast club accepted some voucher providers but not others, and joined the scheme my employer used when asked about it.

burritofan · 25/05/2021 13:43

At that age, £1450 a month. Included all food and activities (Hartbeeps, they had a visit from a petting zoo the other day, they do baking etc) but we supply nappies and sun cream. It’s registered so we get the 20% government discount/top-up.

Got a bit cheaper once she turned two. We’re in a nappy valley leafy south London area.

copernicium · 25/05/2021 13:43

Why don't you ask them to register with tax free? It doesn't take much to do. It's all on the government site.

copernicium · 25/05/2021 13:45

@ChunkyButFunky87 the provider does have to be registered to receive the payment.

Lalliebelle · 25/05/2021 13:46

Ours was around £700/month for three full days including all meals, nappies etc. Since turning 3 years old and getting the 30 hours free, it's now about £200/month (which is amazing!).

Badabingbadabum · 25/05/2021 13:46

£61 a day for over 3, £277 a week for fulltime. Also in Birmingham (Five Ways). The price you are paying is quite reasonable compared to many. It is definitely a relief when the 15/30 hours free kick in.

Hfjshdhs · 25/05/2021 13:48

@EnjoyingTheSunshine re. the tax free childcare scheme. The last Nursery we used weren’t on it. It was launched relatively recently (3ish years ago maybe) and I believe launched badly. For example, some childcare providers were paid late by the government. I assume that once it was bedded in we were into Covid and the nursery will have been fully into all the implications for them, and not keeping up with the various government support schemes.

Anyway, what happened with our old nursery was some of the parents offered to support them to get the admin done to set it up. Maybe that might work for you?

EnjoyingTheSunshine · 25/05/2021 13:56

@Hfjshdhs

I think I'm going to email the nursery and ask if they can enrol on the programme.I don't see why not.

@Badabingbadabum

Does your nursery offer the taxfree childcare scheme?

OP posts:
Badabingbadabum · 25/05/2021 14:06

It does, I remember the problems with the payments not being made when it started. I am still in the childcare voucher scheme so have never had to use it. I think they need to register to receive the payments or something?

User1284568195 · 25/05/2021 14:09

£65 per day here. That includes all meals and snacks, but they do accept childcare vouchers

littleredberries · 25/05/2021 14:11

Over here it's around 230€ pcm.

linerforlife · 25/05/2021 14:17

£52 per day here (SE), and she does 2 full days and soon to be doing 3. We are not eligible for the tax free childcare scheme.

someonesomewhere1 · 25/05/2021 14:17

Local nursery is £2,100 (Zone 1 London). I ended up becoming a SAHM.

worrybutterfly · 25/05/2021 14:20

£1400, in the commuter belt (Sussex).

That's for the cheapest nursery we looked at, although we didn't choose it because it was the cheapest.

wasthataburp · 25/05/2021 14:22

£60 per day
