How much do you pay for nursery each month?

My little one ( almost 10 months) has his settling in week at nursery this week. He is due to start full time from next week.

Nursery costs will be 900 pounds a month.

Unfortunately, our nursery isn't enrolled on the tax free childcare programme, where you get a government discount.

It's very handy though as it's only four minutes walking distance from our home and I work from home full time.

It's also a good nursery and I'm very happy with his nursery teacher, who has been there for six years and takes good care of the young children.

We're based in Birmingham.

I'm wondering how much other people are paying for nursery each month? x

£5 per hour at a local playgroup in Cornwall. Includes snack but nothing else. It's a charity.

girl71 · 25/05/2021 14:34

£895 per month for 8am -6pm Mon -Fri, including lunch. This was in 2003 and in London. It went up each yr. My child was there for 3 full yrs then went to breakfast and after sch clubs when started Reception , which was considerably cheaper!

8dpwoah · 25/05/2021 14:41

£54 a day but we get a full time discount and also tax-free childcare so it costs us about £750 a month on average (worked out daily). It's a fantastic nursery but it would have to be seriously amazing for me to consider a nursery that didn't offer the tax free! Surely of they do funded places they could also sort out the tax free side of things, they're obviously above board etc to be allowed to accept the funding for hours?

Depends on the number of sessions a month. I pay £56 per day and my LO goes 4 days a week. Luckily my nursery is enrolled onto the government tax free site

mowglika · 25/05/2021 15:37

£2150 for full time, london, I only did 2 sessions but my eyes watered when I saw what people needing full time were paying!

Ostryga · 25/05/2021 15:45

Dd at that age was £80 a day. It still hurts my soul to think about it.

Only 3 more payments until school though!!!

Fearnecuptea · 25/05/2021 15:48

Mine costs £1300 for 4 days, SE London, zone 6. Its allot and looking forward to the 15 hours free at 3 years (NOWHERE offers 30 hours free round here though).

everydaysablessing · 25/05/2021 15:54

£1825 for four days a week, everything included (as it should be at that cost!)

Coachee · 25/05/2021 15:55

I’m also in Birmingham. DDs nursery is £60 per day for 8am-6pm, all meals, nappies, suncream etc included. It is one of the more expensive ones in an expensive suburb.

For 4 days a week that was £1040, but with the 30 free hours it is down to £724 as they sneakily claw a bit back by charging for a longer day, so now we could do 7.30am - 6.30pm although reality is we pick her up at 5pm most days.

I can’t understand any organisation that isn’t enrolled in the tax free childcare scheme. That would be a deal breaker for me as we’ve spent £26k with nursery to date and would have lost out on over £5k savings! As a result of the scheme we save 20% on these costs and it adds up!

Coachee · 25/05/2021 15:57

Also just to add - there can be some confusion about tax free childcare at the nursery as there are other similar schemes - you can create an account yourself via gov.uk and then search for the nursery to see if it comes up in the provider list. Nothing lost if they are not on it except a few mins admin time.

My DS goes 2 days a week which is £485 a month. I do salary sacrifice which saves me £176 a month (36%) so actually only pay £311. Its an NHS Trust nursery.

Lavender2021 · 25/05/2021 16:08

£64 a day in Warwickshire at a private montessori nursery. They take the tax free childcare scheme otherwise I would pay £816 a month for three full days, which includes food but not nappies or my daughters oat milk as I take that in.

Dustyhedge · 25/05/2021 18:27

£75 a day. I think I’ll have a party once my youngest goes to school. Lockdown actually worked out quite well financially as it coincided with the time we’d have been playing double nursery fees.

Tweetinat · 25/05/2021 18:40

It doesn't cost them anything to sign up to Tax Free Childcare, so there's no harm asking them if they'll sign up. Why not send them this link: www.gov.uk/guidance/sign-up-to-tax-free-childcare-if-youre-a-childcare-provider

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 25/05/2021 18:41

We pay £1300 for 4 days for DD. DS gets his 30 hours so we pay a lot less for him.
Everything's included and it's on a farm so very practical and outdoors which I love but after fees every month I only take home about £300.

MiloAndEddie · 25/05/2021 19:51

£1100 full time. Includes food not nappies.

It’ll reduce by c£300 once the 30 hours kicks in

Hangingtrousers · 25/05/2021 20:04

£1000 for 3 days 🙈 London though.
We do get the government discount thankfully!

DoAsDreamersDo · 25/05/2021 21:19

£450 a month for 2 full days a week (it’s about £55 a day) and includes food, nappies etc. We also got the tax free child care, but not sure how much that works out to be (20%, but I pay in the full amount and have a free month at the end of the year).

Dazedandconfused28 · 25/05/2021 21:20

I pay £1212 for a 4 day week. 2 of those days are shorter - ending at 4.30

Ours doesn't include food :(
24GinDrinkingOnceTheKidsInBed · 25/05/2021 21:21

Anywhere between 650-700 a month for 5 days a week 8:30-5:30

Badabingbadabum · 26/05/2021 10:41

God, looking through these prices. Ours is a fantastic nursery, open from 7-7 as a standard day and has just started including nappies too. I know why childcare costs so much (building rent, good quality staff, teaching) and I was prepared for it before we had children, but when you realise how other countries subsidise pre-school care you do start to wonder if we are doing something wrong here.

AllHallowsEve14 · 26/05/2021 10:46

I have twins, their nursery is £52 a day each. They go three days a week and I get a 15% twin discount.

Ahahaha, as part of my last job I did a review of the OECD data for Early Years education and childcare across Europe.

Parents in the UK pay slightly, very slightly, less than those in Ireland. That's about the only upside.

polexiaaphrodesia · 26/05/2021 11:55

£1400 per month for a full time place in Berkshire. The nursery is absolutely fantastic and the staff are amazing but the cost is astronomical compared to other European countries. Wrap around care for DS (5) is £300 per month so total is around £1700!
