Can I show you all my first ever painting please?

I've been really enjoying adult painting by numbers. I've got loads of the paint left over so thought I'd have a go at doing a painting of my own. I say 'of my own' but I've actually copied it from an actual artists piece of work. Anyway, I'm rather chuffed with it. I've got no one to show in real life. DH not particularly interested and I'd feel bit of a knob sending a picture of it to anyone so I hope you don't mind me posting it here. This is the first painting I've ever done. Slightly embarrassed to admit that I've framed it! I've just put it in the en suit loo.

Can I show you all my first ever painting please?

@Lowlight282 you can post absolutely anything in most of them. The landscape group only wants landscapes, but yes they can be copies, originals, whatever - and people loooove to advise on materials like paints, brushes etc too. Just dip in, see what you think. They've been really great for me and my confidence as an artist has grown in leaps and bounds! Here's some to kick you off -

The third one is run by a lovely Irish woman, she's got loads of vids that talk you through really simple things that you won't have thought about yet like varnishing a painting or painting shadows etc. Oooh I'm excited for you!

There are also a number of groups where photographers post their stuff that you can use as painting references for free. Really helpful. Here's one I'm in -

Plus there are a bazillion painting vids on youtube with advice on materials and composition and all sorts.

wavecatcher · 24/05/2021 20:55

It's lovely! Please keep it it's a beautiful piece.

adeleh · 24/05/2021 20:55

Wow. That’s amazing! Well done!

Oblomov21 · 24/05/2021 20:55

Very nice. First? No way! Impressive.

JulietBravo999 · 24/05/2021 20:55

@Lowlight282

JulietBravo999 that's interesting, is she self-taught? I live in the countryside, I might try taking a photo of something local and copying it. I dont know if I'd be any good at painting fields though, I've only got a couple of shades of green, I'd have to buy some proper paint 😄
She had an arty background I think but followed a totally different career since.

It’s the local aspect that works for her - people are more likely to buy a beautiful/expensive painting if they recognise the area, and she’s found coastal towns with little arty shops and galleries work best.

SinkGirl · 24/05/2021 20:57

It’s lovely OP.

I do a completely different kind of art (paper cutting) but I tried painting last year and I was legitimately terrible at it. And I really tried. So I’m very impressed.

Domestika have some brilliant courses for various kinds of painting and other art and they’re often on sale for about £10 - I bet you’d love some of them. Have a look :)

SinkGirl · 24/05/2021 20:58

Learn to mix your own colours and then you don’t need lots of paints!

Lonelycrab · 24/05/2021 20:58

It’s really good, great sense of perspective. LikeSmile

pastacaring · 24/05/2021 20:59

That's beautiful, wish I was there!

Hen2018 · 24/05/2021 21:00

I like it, especially the sky.

grapewine · 24/05/2021 21:01

I really, really like that!

thelightishere · 24/05/2021 21:01

Love it!!

WhyMrsRobinson · 24/05/2021 21:01

Oh it’s lovely. I like the way the hills are different colours, from grey to green, and they lead you in to the colours of the sky. There is a lovely depth and atmosphere. Definitely keep it up! And yes, of course copy - it’s how people traditionally learnt to paint, by copying ( good stuff though!) you will learn a lot by copying some of the paintings that appeal to you.
Keep going!

Lowlight282 · 24/05/2021 21:04

giletrouge thanks so much for taking the time to add the links, I'll have a look now.

Thanks again everyone, you've made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside 😊😄

That's lovely OP. If it's a direct copy though, I'd credit the original artist though when publishing anywhere, even on forums or Facebook.x

tentosix · 24/05/2021 21:16

I paint, and it is purely for the relaxation it gives me. People do like them, but for me it's losing myself in the art.

Lowlight282 · 24/05/2021 21:17

This is the original that I copied. Can't for the life of me find the site that I screen shot it off! If anyone knows I'd be very grateful so I can find more to copy from and give you their name. Mine doesn't look quite so impressive now 🙈😆

Gorgeous gorgeous! Well done Flowers

Lowlight282 · 24/05/2021 21:19

Found it! Hiding in my phone. The original is DK Macleod, escaping light at Taransay, if anyone wants to buy it! It is beautiful.

Happymum12345 · 24/05/2021 21:30

Well done! It’s really lovely.

Rainbowqueeen · 24/05/2021 21:30

I really like it
You should be chuffed to bits

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 24/05/2021 21:33

Very impressive especially for a first time painting! Captures an intriguing environment with a serene relaxing sensation. Well done original poster!

LaurieFairyCake · 24/05/2021 21:34

Look the original is amazing but yours in a good way is NOT a copy of it - yours is LOVELY

Sure the first one is your 'inspiration' but you have made it your own !
