I've been really enjoying adult painting by numbers. I've got loads of the paint left over so thought I'd have a go at doing a painting of my own. I say 'of my own' but I've actually copied it from an actual artists piece of work. Anyway, I'm rather chuffed with it. I've got no one to show in real life. DH not particularly interested and I'd feel bit of a knob sending a picture of it to anyone so I hope you don't mind me posting it here. This is the first painting I've ever done. Slightly embarrassed to admit that I've framed it! I've just put it in the en suit loo.

Can I show you all my first ever painting please?

It’s really lovely!!

A friend picked up painting later in life. She takes photos of coastal scenes and goes home to paint a few, and I’m not kidding she has made a small fortune selling both the originals and prints / cards in local shops and galleries.

I genuinely think you could do that!

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 24/05/2021 20:34

I LOVE those colours. !

Lowlight282 · 24/05/2021 20:34

Yeh it is a bit sad that DH isn't really interested. He said well done and that it was good but not with much enthusiasm. He's a lovely man though, I don't want to knock him.

That's amazing. OP! I've done a few paint by numbers AMA found that they really help you see different shades/tones/colours etc. You're inspiring me to go free-style too Grin

ballsdeep · 24/05/2021 20:34

It's fabulous! I am impressed!

giletrouge · 24/05/2021 20:35

It's fab. Can I make a suggestion? There are art groups on Facebook where people share their work with other artists of all standards from raw beginners, and they are honestly some of the kindest, most enthusiastic and supportive Facebook groups imaginable! And getting regular feedback/appreciation of your art is a great encouragement to keep going.
Your painting is lovely and you would fit right in with a couple of groups I can think of (that I'm in myself).
I'll post the links to them if you're interested.
Keep painting! Smile

I love watching Bob Ross' programmes on BBC4. Soooo soothing.

Amdone123 · 24/05/2021 20:37

It's lovely. Well done. Also, very inspirational- I think I'll have a go. I need something relaxing to do.
Makes me feel calm looking at it, too, as I love scenes like that and it seems so long since I last saw one !

Lowlight282 · 24/05/2021 20:37

JulietBravo999 that's interesting, is she self-taught? I live in the countryside, I might try taking a photo of something local and copying it. I dont know if I'd be any good at painting fields though, I've only got a couple of shades of green, I'd have to buy some proper paint 😄

That is amazing. The colours are beautiful. I'd be proud to hang that up in my house.

M0rT · 24/05/2021 20:38

That is really good, I think you've found your talent!
Don't knock yourself for copying, I could try that 100 times and it would still look like a child's work you would stick on the fridge!

BlaBlaSmthSmth · 24/05/2021 20:39

Well done OP it's beautiful! Definitely don't be embarrassed about framing it, be proud you've made something worth framing!!

Lowlight282 · 24/05/2021 20:39

giletrouge thankyou, that would be great. Is it OK to post something I've copied though?

@SummerHouse

I am slightly disappointed it's not hilariously shit OP. Grin

It's an absolute beauty. I would honestly buy it and I am very picky. Well done. Surely your DH will be in awe!?

Me too! I was expecting something terrible and it’s fab!
SingingSands · 24/05/2021 20:40

OMG Bob Ross is amazing isn't he 😅 I didn't know he was on tv again, I'm going to look him up!
ShipshapeShore · 24/05/2021 20:42

Well I want to go there! It's really pleasing to look at, gorgeous colours. I love Bob Ross too - I recently discovered we have a certified instructor in our area and I'd love to have a go.

wishing3 · 24/05/2021 20:42

Very talented- it’s stunning!

ZimZamZoo · 24/05/2021 20:43

I really like it too, gets the imagination going. Would you accept two million pounds for it? I could possibly stretch to three.

That is amazing, it is beautiful

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 24/05/2021 20:45

JMAngel1 · 24/05/2021 20:48

I'm looking for the like button - defintely keep painting - really gorgeous.c

Sleepybunny21 · 24/05/2021 20:52

You definately have talent OP!

There's nothing wrong with with copying from other paintings - would be iffy if you were doing the paintings to sell, but copying is an amazing way of building your technique and sense of colour. It's something we were always encouraged to do at art college. The more paintings you look, the more you will be able to build your own style. Once you have built up some confidence you can use photos, imagination and real life as a reference.
