@xDragon wtf?!

Bottomline · 24/05/2021 08:43

Poor kids - hope they don't lose their mum.

daretodenim · 24/05/2021 09:01

Oh my goodness. I assumed that was in the US!

I hope they catch whoever did it and throw away the keys.

And yes, those poor, poor kids.

💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 to Sasha and her family and friends.

Tal45 · 24/05/2021 09:27

This is awful, those poor children :-( The article confuses me though, the first sentence suggests it was due to her activism following on from numerous death threats, but then later the Met say,
'While the investigation is at an early stage, there is nothing to suggest that the woman who was shot was the subject of a targeted attack or that she had received any credible threats against her prior to this incident' and then seems to relate it to a nearby party.'

So was it due to the party or are the police not wanting to admit they didn't take the threats seriously and so just blaming it on the party?? I really hope that isn't the case :-/

StrawberryCreamCake · 24/05/2021 09:39

It’s making me sick that it was barely mentioned on any of the news channels this morning. And what crap about the police having no reason to believe it’s a targeted attack.

Imagine a white political activist had been receiving death threats and then got shot IN THE HEAD! What’s more targeted than shooting someone in the head?

Why is it whenever a black woman is harmed the media write it off as black people in London at a party, oh well, that’s just what happens in these communities.

Remember those black sisters who were murdered in a London park last year? I kept wondering why the media kept banging on about how they’d been to a party before hand and published photos of them partying.

A little while later a white won an gets murdered and there’s outrage about how women aren’t safe on our streets

Sad
Celyon · 24/05/2021 10:26

StrawberryCreamCake I don't disagree, especially about the treatment of Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry by the media, (never mind the police!) but the report is featuring on radio 4 news, with a "friend and fellow activist" saying she got caught up in a gang shooting, which could be why the police statement.
Friends shooting and death was barely reported. Son was shot at through the window but bullet missed him. Usual response of firearms unit swarming the estate and helicopter hovered - wasn't reported at all. It's become quite normalized.

Wishing her and her family the very best.

MedusasBadHairDay · 24/05/2021 10:29

It's awful news, I really hope she recovers, especially for her children.

TheSquarishCircle · 24/05/2021 10:32

The BBC have just interviewd a friend of Sasha Johnson who says that this appears to be gang related violence.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 24/05/2021 10:34

The shooting isn’t related to her being a BLM activist though? It says in the report it was a party. While I really hope that she recovers and the arsehole that shot her is brought to justice I don’t think it’s helpful or right to link the two separate issues until the police have properly investigated.

Celyon · 24/05/2021 10:34

I'd add that my son was just a child sitting at a table, not involved in gangs.

This in spades Let's not jump to conclusions. Let's hope she recovers quickly. So far we know nothing about who did this or why no description has been given. Statistically (and these are real home office statistics so not racist) 55% of black homicides between 2009 and 2018 were caused by black people who make up about 3% of the population (it's so much of a problem operation trident was set up by the met to combat it so the police do care). So to jump to conclusions this was caused because of her BLM work or a targeted race based attack is jumping to massive conclusions and unhelpful. Let's get this investigated and whoever it was put behind bars.
OhWhyNot · 24/05/2021 12:12

It’s really sad

From what I have read it’s not related to her involvement with BLM

But she is high profile so this is a big news story and should be treated as such

Hope she makes a full recovery her poor children

This post has aged badly and sums up much of the hate baiting that went on in the media in general that morning especially from Diana Abbott. And shows why knee jerk reactions are often unwise. Hope she gets well soon I didn't like her politics but just as if she was a member of the KKK nobody deserves to be shot in the UK.

It's very bad luck, is what it is @StrawberryCreamCake. The police are now looking for four black men in relation with the shooting. It sounds like this poor woman literally got caught in crossfire.

I thought parties weren't allowed yet, anyway?

Bottomline · 25/05/2021 10:58

I doubt this would be about her being an activist - it could be targeted but for different reasons. She's not the only BLM activist so why her, if so?

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 25/05/2021 11:12

It’s terrible Sad

Something really needs to be done about gang violence.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 25/05/2021 11:19

@Celyon I am so sorry about your son's friend and also sorry for what your son has experienced. These stories are tragic and as a London resident I am well aware of how little these things can be publicised.

Xiaoxiong · 25/05/2021 11:34

This was in the news bulletins yesterday on R4 and also front page of the Times today with a big photo - so I think it's definitely getting the attention the story deserves. Praying for her and her family, her poor kids Flowers

And as for parties, there was a picture in the paper of the scene from above and there was a big marquee in the garden, you can have parties outdoors perfectly legally at the moment of up to 30 people. I went to one myself on Saturday night.

Ah I see, thanks @Xiaoxiong.

www.google.ch/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/05/28/uk/london-blm-activist-shooting-charge-intl-hnk/index.html

On Friday, London's Metropolitan Police said Cameron Deriggs has been charged with conspiracy to murder in connection with the shooting.

Deriggs was among five men arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder in the case.
