Just curious.

Depends on the advice from your surgeon.

Goldenskeletons · 23/05/2021 22:43

To clarify, it's the whole blood clot thing with flying & op.

Yes. From my understanding the AZ clotting issue is a different mechanism to the clotting risk from surgery or flying. And a pretty minuscule risk, especially second dose - I bet the risks of flying are higher, much less surgery!

And given the recent data on the importance of the second dose as regards the Indian variant, I’d just get it done, unless advised not to by a medic.

Yes, not the same sort of clot. Talk to your surgeon.

OhMyAttic · 24/05/2021 05:53

Yes, I'd definitely want the second before going into hospital. Also before sitting in a tin can with strangers for ages!

Yes, but I would prefer it to be a longer gap so the full effectiveness of the vaccine is there.

I don't think you can have a vaccine 10 days either side of surgery. At least that's what my mum got told. She is having a procedure on Thursday so had to cancel her 2nd vaccine last week.

Not a chance would I have it one week before a flight That’s asking for trouble

Some of my patients have been told similar, but with two weeks. Seems to depend on where they are having it done. I'm not actually sure why, it's just what they were told.

DP had surgery 10 day ago. He was asked several times pre op about his vaccine as he was due his second jab around the same time. His surgeon said that he would not be allowed to have his operation for two weeks after his jab. I'm not sure if this was a surgeon, hospital or trust policy.

In the end he had to delay his second jab until a week after his surgery.

AutumnBrooke · 24/05/2021 19:31

I've just had surgery and was told I needed to be 7 days clear of having my vaccine beforehand. They said I couldn't have the vaccine for at least 2 weeks after surgery but one week before was OK.

IcaMorgan · 24/05/2021 20:32

I was due a procedure today but was told as it wasn't 4 after weeks my second jab I couldn't have it (Pfizer )

Goldenskeletons · 24/05/2021 21:48

I've now booked my jab for a month before op.
