Anyone else who isn’t affected by caffeine?

Kitanora · 23/05/2021 21:17

Having a chat with some friends last night who also said they can’t drink coffee after 2pm as they can’t sleep / they find they’re buzzing after a single cup of coffee etc.

I have always thought this so strange as caffeine doesn’t affect me at all. I don’t notice any effects and I can easily drink tea all evening and go to sleep easily. Anyone else?!

Not at all, I drink at least 8-10 mugs of tea/coffee a day (tea at home, coffee in work) with no effects.

Thefamilybusiness · 23/05/2021 21:19

Not energy wise but I do find if I drink more than 1 cup it makes me wee.

Youngatheart00 · 23/05/2021 21:24

Yup. I can literally drink a coffee or energy drink and then have a nap!

I do find I get a bit weird and low bloody sugar-y if I don’t eat anything but have more than 2 coffees in the morning. It’s like there’s a huge crash and I go hot, sweaty and light headed.

TheCanyon · 23/05/2021 21:28

Doesn't even give me energy.

coco123456789 · 23/05/2021 21:30

I’m the same. It doesn’t stop me sleeping at all. But it doesn’t give me a huge buzz either. I just drink it because I like the taste and process of making hot drinks!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/05/2021 21:32

Same here. I always have a coffee when I get home from work, it does nothing!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 23/05/2021 21:34

No, if I drink coffee passed 4pm I would be up all night. I dink a lot of coffee, proper coffee but my body still reacts the same way.
Apparently dome people aren't affected by caffeine. I was watching something the other night and they were explaining it (maybe food unwrapped), so there are other people like you OP.

Kitanora · 23/05/2021 21:34

So pleased! They were making out that I was an utter weirdo!!

Same. Coffee or tea wouldn't keep me from sleeping or give me any energy boost. I don't generally drink energy drinks but did try an extra strength caffeine drink at the gym one time. Didn't have any effect. Then again, neither does creatine.

BakewellGin1 · 23/05/2021 21:37

Meeeee.... I could drink a giant can of energy drink or a large coffee at 6pm and still sleep by 9pm...

Honestly I wish I could have this caffeine hit people talk about but I get nothing...

I can drink tea and coffee all day long with no effects.

BlackAlys · 23/05/2021 21:38

I talk like an absolute twat if alive had a coffee.

Even my pupils can tell - if I'm
Talking nine to the dozen, they say "you've been on the hard stuff again, haven't you Miss?"

BlackAlys · 23/05/2021 21:38

*if I'VE

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/05/2021 21:40

It never affected me when I was younger. I would often work until 2 or 3 am when the house was quiet, no phone going or anyone ringing the doorbell, no kids/cat/dog demanding anything, with one coffee after another - and still sleep well when I finally went to bed.

20 years on, it’s a different matter.🙁

Monkeytennis97 · 23/05/2021 21:40

Snap. Cup of coffee and can easily then drop off to sleep. I do have quite milky and sweet coffee though (can't stand black coffee).

StealthPolarBear · 23/05/2021 21:41

Yes me too. Happily drink coffee as a hit drink before bed and have as many as I fancy in a day, sometimes two, sometimes ten. I drink it black, but instant and not too strong.

TrashPanda · 23/05/2021 21:45

I don't drink hot drinks but I do drink lots of coke. I can drink it just before bed with no sleeping problems, feel no buzz or energy. I do get headaches if I don't drink it though. So it clearly does have an effect but not an obvious one unless I don't drink it.

itsmellslikepopcarn · 23/05/2021 21:45

Yep, same. I have probably 7-8 cups of black instant coffee everyday, no sugar. Could have one at bedtime and still be fast asleep within 5 minutes of my head hitting the pillow, much to my insomniac boyfriends disgust 🙈

herecomesthesundoodoodoodoo · 23/05/2021 21:48

I don't drink tea or coffee, but used to drink Diet Coke, maybe 2-3 cans per day. I would never feel any effect from the caffeine, but I don't know how much there is in Coke.

I stopped drinking them a few years ago, just stopped overnight, and suffered with really bad headaches and cravings for a couple of days afterwards.

To the OP, what happens if you don't drink anything with caffeine?

motogogo · 23/05/2021 21:51

If only. if I have more than one cup in a day, even before midday, I can't sleep

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 23/05/2021 21:53

I think I am probably immune to it. I drink at least 4-6 cups of coffee a day. Filter coffee if I can get it. I continue drinking coffee at night and I quite often have a double espresso after dinner and I really enjoy it and don't find it affects my sleep at all.

Just occasionally I find I can overdo it. Often if I am at a conference and there's nice coffee and I wind up having a few cups every coffee break then I can come over a bit jittery

Suzi888 · 23/05/2021 21:54

Nope. I always wonder what the buzz is they get from coffee. Grin I get nothing!

Elphame · 23/05/2021 21:55

My coffee consumption used to be enormous - other than the time I was absent-mindedly munching on chocolate covered coffee beans* whilst drinking my normal 5-6 cups of morning filter coffee it had no effect on me. I'd probably be into double figures by 5pm easily

I didn't drink it at all at home so weekends were cold turkey - no headaches or any withdrawal symptoms at all. Since I stopped working in the office I'm now on a more reasonable level.

I can drink multiple espressos before bed and still be out like a light.

  • I do not recommend this - by lunchtime I was floating 2ft off the floor. The one and only time I've ever felt the effects of caffeine
LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 23/05/2021 21:55

I get a dreadful headache if I do not have any, but otherwise, no buzz, no energy

I did cut down though a couple of years back as "menopause" ...sleepless/irritable/flushes, I don't think it helped with that tbh, but I was drinking so so much it must have done me some good to cut down.

supercee · 23/05/2021 21:56

I only have one proper cup of coffee in the morning and take a L'theanine tablet to combat any jitters. Any others I have decaf. I associate coffee with mornings so I'd never fancy it anyway afternoon/evening but I'm a shit sleeper so wouldn't risk it.

TangledNemo · 23/05/2021 21:56

I don’t like the taste of coffee that much, but I do have a weekly latte from Costa at around 8-11 in the morning. I definitely find it a lot harder to sleep that night because of it though.
