My daughters face has erupted these past few months. We've been prescribed Zineryt but unsure if this is still working.

She's also got greasy hair after a day of washing it.

Is this typical? I've made another doctors appointment to discuss I was just wondering if any other parents used anything else in addition to prescription medicine.

She's going up to high school in September and I'm worried it's going to knock her confidence. Sad

try to avoid putting her on long-term antibiotics, the creams are fine but I was on Minocycline for months at a time and 25 years later still have reduced levels of good gut bacteria, as well as having some intermittent problems with putting weight on very rapidly (the latter not necessarily connected but my identical twin sister didn't have any such problems).
Try to also look at cleaning up her diet as much as possible. It won't fix the acne and it will really annoy her if you tell her not to eat chocolate, but do try and cut out things iwth trans fat & sugar (such as nutella, donuts, long shelf-life cakes & biscuits, cheap ice cream). Also check she is getting enough zinc, vitamin c and b vitamins in her diet and drinking plenty of water and other low sugar drinks (not Diet coke). If she does have to take a course of antibiotics, add plenty of fermented foods to her diet (sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi, etc)
The greasy hair is normal. The main thing is to keep reminding her that it's temporary, as it's very hard to keep perspective on the change at that age. I was quite withdrawn and down for the 2 years that i had really bad acne, but the big advantage now is that all that greasy skin means that I look a lot younger than I am.

I took loads of antibiotics for this with no gut issues because it’s usually penicillin active against gut bacteria & they usually use lymecycline or similar now. Flucloxacillin gave me ibs but cured my campylobacter food poisoning so swings and roundabouts.

The treatment for acne’s;

Topicals
Oral antibiotics/ contraceptive pill
Isotretonoin.

The NICE guidelines are available online for acne and they explain all the treatments & what the dr should do for her. Always ask how long to give a treatment before ringing back. It can be a difficult infection to manage so well done for being a caring mum & taking her.

When it happened to me I had to make my own appointment while dm regaled me of how if she got a spot it dried up overnight. Not helpful.

I'm suprised they put her on antibiotics before trying things like Duac. My teenager had horrific acne but Duac worked miracles.

Duac is an antibiotic though.
