Where in Kent is nice to visit for a weekend?

We have a touring caravan and haven’t yet booked anything due to Covid a d this god awful weather but it’s looking to change for the better this bank holiday 🤞so I fancy taking the van away. Not too far. We are in Essex and have done Suffolk and Norfolk lots so am thinking of Kent. We have never been to that way so am wondering where is nice? Ideally countryside or Coastal, not keen on a town/city. Any recommendations?

I would look at Birchington or Deal areas for coastal if you’re camping. For country, areas around Bridge, Chartham, Chilham, Charing type areas between Canterbury & Ashford are lovely and I have driven past plenty of sites round there.

Otherwise, I’d look down on the south Kent coast near Hythe, St Mary’s Bay, going on towards Camber and Rye, those last two being Sussex. Maybe that’s your trip after next, though. Smile

Thanks RickiTarr

Just came to say Birchington too! Maybe Joss Bay or Broadstairs for coastal. I’d also agree that between Ashford and Canterbury would be good for country. There’s also some nice places near Sandwich (try Eastry) or, depending on what you want to do over the weekend maybe near Bewl Water.

Kent resident and former weekend camper speaking and I second everything @RickiTarr said, but if you're a Camping and Caravan Club member, there always used to be a gorgeous 5-up site at Womenswold, just off the A2 near Canterbury. Haven't been that way for many years, though.

Whitstable, Reculver, Margate, Deal, Dungeness for coastal visits. Canterbury & Leeds Castle worth a visit too

Its really nice on the coast road round from dover to broadstairs.

At dover youve got the castle and some white cliff walks and st margarets bay.
Then sandwich is a lovely village inland a bit with inland walks and Deal offers a seaside town and another small castle.

Then broadstairs has a really traditional seaside town with punch and judy and the beaches are sandy - viking bay, joss bay and botany bay being pretty

Thank you so much everyone. It’s given me a lot to look at, hopefully we’ll find somewhere available as they are all booking up quickly now!

Dont tell everyone how nice it is though. Its always been quieter for a holiday than other places.

Folkestone is worth a visit!

SwimBaby · 23/05/2021 13:11

I love Canterbury.

Tenterden is a nice area and you go down to Rye as people have suggested.

Otherwise there are lots of pretty villages near Canterbury and places like Goudhurst and Cranbrook.

If you like castles, there are a few eg Dover/Deal/Walmer, Leeds Castle, Hever Castle etc.
