Anyone have an electric car?

I'm getting a new car in next few months and I'm really considering an electric car...just have a couple of questions if any one can answer

So when I am at say Tesco (local Tesco has charging points) how do I pay to charge it?

How many miles does a full charge get?

Are you happy with it or do you regret getting it?

Thank you

We’ve got a Tesla and it just gets automatically billed to the Tesla account. Get I think about 280 miles to a charge?? Depends on air con and heating etc.
Very happy with it, takes a bit of getting used to having to plan where to charge on long journeys that’s all.

We’ve got a Tesla model s, free supercharge for life. You have to factor in charging points and time to charge on your journey but it’s cleaner and cheaper. The Tesco charging points are free but very slow. Ev charging stations are faster and free to charge until 75 minutes.

We have an electric car and it's a bit of a pain tbh!
We were told we'd get approx 240 miles per charge but in reality the maximum we've had is 160. If you have the air con/radio on it goes down quite quickly!
There's nowhere near enough charging points and any long journey has to be very carefully thought out to plan where to charge, we've found this difficult with a young family.
From my experience I wouldn't recommend one just now!

I have a Nissan Leaf and love it. I charge it at home.

I get about 300-350km on a full charge (60kwh). The 30kwh Leaf gets about 150km on a full charge.

The answer to most of those questions is ‘it depends’ Grin

So when I am at say Tesco (local Tesco has charging points) how do I pay to charge it? Depends on the provider. Trickle chargers are sometimes free but ecotricity you pay a set amount depending on how many kw you charge for. Currently 30p /kwh

How many miles does a full charge get?
Depends on battery size. We’ve had one where full charge was 120, our current one is 230. But full charge doesn’t meant that’s how much it will do, it’s a prediction based on previous driving patterns. So a full charge driving around at 30-50 in town probably would get 220 but motorway driving it drops to 150-170 on a full charge, depending on weather. Capacity can take a big hit in winter as well.

Are you happy with it or do you regret getting it?
Mostly happy. Our second car is not big and we are now looking at changing this for longer trips. It should be easy to use for long trips (though the journey takes longer as you need to stop more frequently) but the charging network if you don’t have a Tesla requires work. You get loads of unused Tesla chargers and then maybe 2 Ecotricity. If someone gets there before you, you have to wait until they are done.

But, it has saved us a fortune for commuting. We maybe spend £30-£40 charging in a month compared with £250 petrol costs. It’s nippy and servicing is dead easy. I don’t want to put you off them but it really does depend on your circumstances and which car you choose!

How do you get a Tesla account and can you use that at most points? Thanks
