Help please! Has anybody got a brilliant idea for the above? They don't want anything really and don't want to go anywhere - which makes it tricky! We also won't actually be able to meet up due to Covid, of course! Really have no idea on how to mark the occasion and feeling a bit guilty as I always thought we would have a big party but that's out!

We wrote (and performed ) a song for them, but that's maybe a bit cheesy!

( I do write doggerel poems to order if that might be of interest......)

Charity gifts, name a star, sponsor a tree (that they may actually be able to visit at some point in the future)? Make a donation to a school that they attended to fund an annual prize in their name?

My parents Golden wedding anniversary was last year so lockdown meant all normal plans/present exchanges were off.

I got one of these delivered to them 'Golden Celebration' I think was the one and it looks gorgeous now.

As I had extra time on my hands I also did them one of these and sent it in the post. I'm not a big sewer but found it fairly straightforward.

Why can't you meet up? Take them for a special meal and get them a voucher for a special night away

Champagne afternoon tea voucher?

Montalbanosono · 22/05/2021 16:35

So many creative ideas! I'm afraid I can't sing a song or cross-stitch but I'll look into the others - thanks!

Why can't you meet up?
I live abroad and there are still restrictions.

Most garden centres do at least one rose with Golden in the name, so that might be an option.
Framed picture of the church where they got married. Maybe a painting rather than a photograph if you have time to get it done.
Garden bench/bird table/bird bath.

My parents needed nothing so I did some golden wedding anniversary balloons, gold bottled fizz, a Photobook and a personalised cushion with the stitching in gold as a memento of the date: www.notonthehighstreet.com/bigstitch/product/personalised-natural-linen-cushion

Are you able to can contact friends and family and ask them to each record a short video (and each are not to spoil the surprise) of how they met the couple and their recollections - and then link them together to make a whole video for them to view ? You could also add still photos of the couple as the video progresses.

Was just coming on the thread to say a golden celebration rose from David Austin! I see someone got there before me.

Inextremis · 22/05/2021 17:37

What about a gold-coloured electronic photo frame loaded with photos of extended family? Amazon have one for around 50 quid.

Peckhampalace · 22/05/2021 17:38

Bought these for a golden wedding present
jodowns.com/collections/coasters/products/gold-heart-coaster
plus big box of personalised chocs and made big tin of heart shaped shortbread biscuits.
They didn't want anything.
A present that was interesting was a newspaper from their wedding day.

A rose, but only if they're gardeners and it's not going to be a chore to plant it. Flowers. A case of good wine, not necessarily champagne. A large box of very good chocolates. (Fortnum's, Pierre Marcolini - not Hotel Chocolat and absolutely not Thornton's!)
They have had 50 years to accumulate 'stuff' and they don't want more - so nothing 'thoughtful', nothing golden themed, no cushions, no ornaments, no framed photos - when we say we don't want anything, it's this kind of stuff that's top of the list! Nothing that will cause a twinge of guilt when we chuck it! Nothing that you'll find still in its box after we kick the bucket! No vouchers - and no enquiries about whether vouchers have been used. Charity donations at least don't create clutter but unless they have been requested they do not constitute a gift.
Bunch of flowers, congratulations and a card - that's plenty.

We made a photo album on snapfish of the grandparents and our children only. So 15 years of photos in a glossy hard back photo album. Lots of personalisation. We had it posted to us but you could of course do the book online and then have it posted direct to the recipients.

Carriemac · 22/05/2021 18:48

Loushome · 22/05/2021 21:24
