Paultons park - what else is there to do locally?

BasinHaircut · 22/05/2021 10:07

We have booked a night in a hotel so we could do 2 days at Paultons park. Just gone to book the park tickets and can only get tickets for one of the days and can’t change the hotel booking so looking for something else to do on the other day. 4 adults and 3 kids aged 7/8/9.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Longdown activity farm is nearby. Their trampoline/hay bail barn is good for tiring them out.

Moors valley ( forestry commission) is a 30 min drive. Perfect for that age. There’s a Go Ape but great free play structures in the woods too so can be a v cheap day out.

Marwell zoo

I’d second moors valley , they have a great park and little railway etc .

OldTinHat · 22/05/2021 10:31

Marwell is fabulous.

MegBusset · 22/05/2021 10:32

Second Moors Valley
Mottisfont and Kingston Lacy NT properties are both great.
Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary lovely for a walk and picnic

My favourite animal in all the world is a cheetah
They have cheetahs at Marwell

Also keep looking at tickets for paultons the get cancellations and release more if season slots aren't used.
You can do paultons in a day anyway really.

TeenMinusTests · 22/05/2021 11:11

^^ What they all said Smile

Cheapest would be Moors Valley as that's parking only.
Personally we like the New Forest Wildlife Park

It is Romsey Rapids (not Romney).

Also in Romsey, Golden Gecko climbing.

AuthorsOfForever · 22/05/2021 11:36

Marwell is nice. Apparently they have some super cool sloth now.

Paultons isn't really a 2 dayer anyway.

badlydrawnbear · 22/05/2021 11:40

I agree with Marwell. It’s great if you like zoos. We enjoyed Mottisfont when we went but we had much younger children. When are you going? Will it potentially be beach weather?

TeenMinusTests · 22/05/2021 11:46

Marwell is lovely (we have season tickets) but I would say not great if cold/windy/rainy (so not this w/e for example). It is quite spread out, with an out and back feel, and can feel a trek at times.

Insert1x20p · 28/05/2021 04:40

Agree Paultons Park is one day, especially as your DC are too old for vast majority of the Peppa Pig bit (although the soft play in there is quite fun).

Buckingafout · 28/05/2021 04:43

Marwell zoo, Longleat?

TropicalFairyCake · 28/05/2021 05:17

Depends how far you've come but Longleat is at least an hour from Paultons park.

Marwell is the obvious "day out" from Paultons. Romsey rapids is fun but no idea what thats like since the last year. We love Moors valley. But in the other direction is Portsmouth if you wanted historic boats etc.

custardbear · 28/05/2021 05:38

Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard

The soft play is closed at the moment. Yes I agree that Paultons can be done in a day especially with older kids. Longdown Farm is probably a bit young for a 9 year old. Moors Valley is fantastic, the best country park I have ever been to and so much for kids that age. Very easy to get to from Paultons

If you're driving to the hotel, it would be useful to know where you're coming from as there might be something on the way but I wouldn't want to recommend something which is an hour in the wrong direction if you see what I mean. And where abouts is the hotel, is it the one right by Paultons park?

ChocOrange1 · 28/05/2021 05:47

The Rapids are only offering family swimming on weekends at the moment

mindutopia · 28/05/2021 07:19

Moors Valley or just generally a day in the new forest (you don’t have to pay, just park in a car park and go).

I also really like Hengistbury Head, take the ferry from Christchurch quay.

I couldn’t imagine doing 2 days a Paulton’s. One was definitely plenty with my 8 year old.

TropicalFairyCake · 28/05/2021 08:23

Ooh yes to Hemgistbury head or a walk in the forest!

I think with the new area there's a lot more rides and queuing than there was. I don't think you can do it all in a day on a bank holiday....
